Electronic Arts is planning to discontinue support for one of its popular games in late 2026. Over the last year, EA has been gradually shutting down the online services for several older titles. We saw this earlier in 2026 with the shutdown of Anthem, and other games from series like Need for Speed, EA Sports FC, and Dirt have also been removed. Now, another EA game will no longer be supported, but this shutdown will only affect players on a single platform.
Respawn Entertainment announced today that Apex Legends will no longer be playable on Nintendo Switch after this summer. The popular free-to-play battle royale game, launched in 2019, has been a major success for EA. While a version of the game was released for Switch in 2021, it offered a slightly lower-quality experience. Respawn will officially end support for the Switch version on August 4, 2026.
This Isn’t All Bad News for Nintendo Fans
Despite support for the original Nintendo Switch ending, Apex Legends will still be available on Nintendo hardware through the Switch 2. Respawn has stated this change will allow them to deliver a better gameplay experience on all platforms. With the Switch 2 now available, Nintendo fans will be able to enjoy Apex Legends with quality similar to the versions on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Respawn announced that Apex Legends will remain available on all current platforms. They are committed to improving the game’s content and technology to provide a high-quality experience. Respawn also highlighted that the Nintendo Switch 2, with Nintendo’s support, offers a fantastic handheld way to play Apex Legends.
Before the servers shut down in August, Apex Legends on Switch will continue to get all the same updates and new content as other platforms. You’ll still be able to experience everything added in the upcoming Seasons 28 and 29. However, support for the game on Switch will end when Season 30 starts.
