One of PlayStation’s Best Games Is Finally Getting a Sequel, and It Looks Incredible

It’s unusual for a fantastic game to never receive a sequel or any further development, but it does happen. Some truly amazing games, like Bloodborne, remain standalone experiences, and even well-known series can fall into obscurity. We’ve seen this with franchises like Jak, which Naughty Dog stopped developing, and even newer PlayStation games, such as Kena: Bridge of Spirits, sometimes feel like they won’t get a follow-up.

Great news for fans of Kena: Bridge of Spirits! Ember Labs has announced a sequel, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, and it looks fantastic. Revealed during a popular PlayStation State of Play, the new game appears to be even more ambitious than the original, offering plenty of content for both new players and longtime fans. Kena: Scars of Kosmora is definitely a game to watch, and it’s expected to be released sooner rather than later.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora Reveal Was Breathtaking

I was totally glued to the February 12, 2026, State of Play, and I found myself really curious about what Ember Labs was up to next. They hadn’t said much about their new project, but I was hoping it would be something connected to Kena: Bridge of Spirits. That game actually got me through a really tough time, and it reminded me how incredible video games can be. Kena was unlike anything I’d ever played – the story was so cinematic and actually moved me, which is rare for a game. The combat was challenging, but it was all wrapped up in these gorgeous, Disney-like visuals that you wouldn’t expect to be paired with such a demanding fight system.

I still often listen to the incredible music from the game and fondly remember being lost in its world. So, I was thrilled when Ember Lab finally announced their next game, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, at the recent State of Play event. The trailer showed off the expansive environments and detailed towns of this sequel, promising another emotional story for Kena and, of course, plenty of cute spirits to collect along the way.

This trailer completely surprised me and rekindled my love for video games. It’s easy to be critical of the gaming industry these days, but the trailer for Scars of Kosmora – with its charming and grand scope, and reminders of Bridge of Spirits – genuinely moved me. Even more exciting, this game has the potential to become PlayStation’s next major hit.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora Could Be The Next Big PlayStation Title

I may be a bit biased towards Kena: Bridge of Spirits – I think it’s a truly exceptional game. Ember Labs’ background in animation really shines through, giving Kena a stunning visual style and cinematic feel that you don’t often see, even in big-budget games. This strong presentation makes the story much more impactful, allowing the emotional moments to truly resonate.

Playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits felt like experiencing a really polished PlayStation 2 platformer – and that was a good thing! The game had smooth controls, beautifully detailed levels, and a mix of puzzles, exploration, and fighting that felt both familiar and fresh. This solid base has allowed Ember Labs to improve on what made the first game great, while also adding new features to Scars of Kosmora.

The upcoming sequel is a much larger undertaking, but given how fantastic the original Kena: Bridge of Spirits was, it doesn’t seem like the developers are overreaching. Scars of Kosmora promises a noticeably more detailed world, with bigger towns, expansive open areas, and a wider range of beautifully animated combat moves for Kena. It looks set to deliver an exceptional experience, building on the strengths of the first game while adding features that were previously limited by budget and time. If they succeed, Scars of Kosmora has the potential to be not only a remarkable sequel, but also one of the best exclusive games for PlayStation in years.

While many PlayStation games deserve sequels – Bloodborne especially – I’m really happy to see PlayStation continuing to support smaller studios and their unique stories. The announcement that Kena: Scars of Kosmora will come out in 2026 is great news for PS5 fans, especially since there aren’t many other PlayStation exclusives planned for that year. I don’t expect it to compete with GTA 6 for Game of the Year, but I hope Kena: Scars of Kosmora can win over a new audience just like Kena: Bridge of Spirits did for me.
