Robin Williams left behind a fantastic collection of films, and choosing his best is tough! He first became famous on the 1970s TV show Mork & Mindy, and quickly became one of the most popular and talented actors of his time. He’s best known for memorable roles in movies like Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Dead Poets Society, and Good Will Hunting. Throughout his career, he appeared in over 36 films, and now one of his most celebrated movies is available to watch for free online.
Tubi is now streaming the classic adventure film Jumanji! The movie, which is based on the popular children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, became available on January 1st. It stars Robin Williams as Alan Parrish, a boy who gets stuck inside a mysterious jungle board game in 1969. Years later, two kids find the game and start playing, accidentally freeing Alan and unleashing a host of wild creatures – including huge insects, mischievous monkeys, and dangerous animals!
Jumanji Is a Nostalgic Classic That Still Holds up Today
You know, despite what the critics say – and Rotten Tomatoes gives Jumanji a pretty lukewarm score, around 55% from critics and 63% from audiences – I still think it’s a really special movie. It’s become this incredibly imaginative and timeless family adventure, and honestly, it holds up. It was a huge hit back in ’95, making over $262 million, and I think it works because it balances fun, lighthearted moments with real danger. It’s just a fast-paced, exciting ride for everyone. Plus, Robin Williams is just fantastic in it – he brought that perfect mix of energy and vulnerability that he was known for, and really grounded the whole fantastical story. And even though the special effects look a little dated now, they actually add to the movie’s nostalgic ’90s vibe, which I love.
Thirty years after its release, the movie remains a beloved classic, still offering a fun and creative fantasy experience. It’s become a defining part of many childhoods and its popularity has only increased over time. Hollywood has revisited the story multiple times, first with the spin-off Zathura: A Space Adventure, and more recently with the successful Jumanji sequels starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart, beginning with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2016) and followed by Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). A third sequel is currently being made, set to release in theaters on December 11, 2026, demonstrating the enduring popularity of Jumanji and building on the success of the original film.
