While Star Wars has always been known for its memorable villains, a recent character seems unlikely to return. After dominating the movie world for years, Star Wars has successfully expanded to television. Shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan Kenobi have proven the franchise can still tell exciting stories and introduce compelling characters. The next major installment is the 2026 film, The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Despite the new movie continuing the story of a recent, highly-regarded installment in the Star Wars franchise, it appears a compelling villain won’t be returning. Katy O’Brian, who played the intriguing character Elia Kane in The Mandalorian, has indicated she won’t be involved in the upcoming project. When asked by MovieWeb, she stated plainly, “I’m not in the movie.” This news is disheartening for fans who were invested in her character and felt her storyline had more to offer.
Elia Kane’s Star Wars Story Should Have Led Into Bigger Developments

Elia Kane’s storyline in the Disney+ series wasn’t a major focus, but her continued loyalty to Moff Gideon after joining the Republic’s amnesty program was an interesting development. This showed she’d continue operating as a spy for the Empire from within the Republic, meaning her villainous role wasn’t finished. The story hinted that her allegiance to Gideon could tie her into a bigger plan against the Republic, possibly even alongside Grand Admiral Thrawn.
While many actors are returning for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the absence of O’Brian is a bit disappointing. The decision to make season 4 a movie likely means the story is being simplified, and it suggests that her character’s part will be reduced or even left out. Given that she had become a consistently compelling character on the show, it’s unfortunate she may not appear again.
Despite the actress’s recent statements, there’s still a possibility Elia Kane could reappear in Star Wars. The character wasn’t killed off and was last seen actively working on a mission for Moff Gideon. This wouldn’t be the first time the character surprised fans – the actress thought Elia Kane was gone after season 2 of The Mandalorian, but she returned in season 3. So, while it doesn’t look likely right now, a future return isn’t impossible.
