Big, popular movie franchises dominate theaters now, meaning comedies are becoming rare on the big screen. However, they’re still readily available on streaming services. Just this November, a hilarious movie from seven years ago reappeared on streaming, and many wish it had been followed by a second installment.
The 2018 comedy Game Night, directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, recently became available on Netflix on November 1st. The hilarious film, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams as a couple whose game night takes a dangerous turn, was critically acclaimed and many hoped for sequels, though none were ever made. The movie also features a talented supporting cast including Billy Magnussen, Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, Jesse Plemons, Michael C. Hall, and Kyle Chandler.
Game Night Deserved a Sequel
The movie Game Night was a hilarious hit that really deserved a sequel. It’s a consistently funny, R-rated comedy with a smart script full of quick jokes and references to popular culture. Memorable moments, like Annie’s take on “Simon Says” and the airport Charades scene, really stand out. What made it special was how it blended laugh-out-loud humor with a clever, fast-paced mystery, making it both funny and engaging – and leaving plenty of room for more stories.
Released in February 2018, Game Night was a critical and audience hit, earning an 85% positive rating from critics and a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was also a financial success, grossing $117 million worldwide on a $37 million budget. Given this strong reception and performance, many fans hoped for sequels, but none have materialized despite significant demand.
It looks like a sequel to the movie Game Night probably won’t happen. According to Jason Bateman, who spoke with Entertainment Tonight last year, the directors have made it clear they aren’t interested in making a second film. He said he asked them directly, and they told him ‘no’.
New Movies on Netflix
Netflix has added a bunch of new movies and shows this November, and many are already available to watch! If you enjoyed Game Night and are looking for more comedies, you can now stream titles like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Crazy Rich Asians, Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas, and all three The Hangover movies – they all became available on November 1st. Beyond comedy, Netflix also added films like Baby Driver, Back to the Future, and Ready Player One to its streaming library.
