It’s officially horror season, and spooky monsters are appearing on all your favorite streaming services! From the unsettling presence beneath the waves in Jaws to the terrifying werewolf in An American Werewolf in London, creature features consistently provide some of the most exciting frights and are always popular choices for horror movie marathons every October. If you’re a horror fan searching for another scare, you can add one more film to your list – an overlooked monster movie has just become available on a streaming service, perfectly timed for Halloween.
If you have a strong fear of bugs, especially spiders, you might want to skip Arachnophobia on Tubi. This 1990 creature feature, directed by Frank Marshall and starring Jeff Daniels and John Goodman, began streaming on Fox’s free service on October 1st. Even though it’s labeled a horror comedy, Arachnophobia can be quite scary. The story follows a small town in California that’s overrun by a dangerous type of spider, and focuses on how residents, including someone afraid of spiders, Dr. Ross Jennings, and exterminator Delbert McClintock, work to stop the infestation before it gets worse.
Arachnophobia Is Easily one Of The Best Monsters Movies of the 1990s
Arachnophobia is a very effective monster movie because it taps into a widespread and realistic fear – creepy crawlies. Unlike monsters from far-off places, like the Xenomorph in Alien or the giant ape in King Kong, this movie makes something everyday – spiders – terrifying within the seemingly safe environment of a family home. In Arachnophobia, spiders appear in all the places you’d anticipate – inside a shoe, in the shower, on a bedroom wall – so nowhere feels secure. Even as Arachnophobia becomes increasingly outlandish and its kills become more bizarre and memorable, it still manages to create real fear, making the familiar feel unsafe, and will likely have even the most courageous viewers glancing around nervously for those eight-legged creatures.
Arachnophobia isn’t simply frightening; it skillfully blends genuine fear and creepy moments with comedy. The film’s strength lies in how realistically and comically the characters react to the spider infestation, along with its clever dialogue. Arachnophobia is a uniquely enjoyable horror film-it’s the kind of movie that will both make you uneasy and have you laughing out loud.
Other Horror Movies Now on Tubi
As a total movie buff, especially when it comes to horror, I have to tell you about Tubi this Halloween! They seriously load up with new stuff every month, and October is *huge* for horror fans – they’ve got something for everyone. If you’re into monster movies, you can stream vampire flicks like 30 Days Of Night and its sequel, 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days, or even the classic An American Werewolf In London. For those who love a good supernatural scare, The Grudge, The Omen, and The Ring are all now streaming. And they didn’t stop there! They’ve also added titles like Dark Harvest, The Hills Have Eyes, and Jennifer’s Body. Definitely worth checking out!
Tubi plans to add a bunch more scary movies and shows this month. Eraserhead will be available starting October 6th, with Sting following on October 11th, Don’t Breathe on October 15th, and Don’t Turn Out The Lights on October 25th.
