A highly-rated GameCube game and its follow-up on the Wii are reportedly being released for the Nintendo Switch. While there’s no word yet about a Switch 2 version, if these games do come to the Switch, they’ll also be playable on any future Nintendo console that supports older games.
The rumor comes from Nash Weedle, a Nintendo insider who previously leaked details about *Metroid Dread* before Nintendo’s official announcement. Now, Weedle claims Nintendo is planning to release the remaining *Metroid Prime* games on the Switch. Following the successful release of *Metroid Prime Remastered* in 2023 and with *Metroid Prime 4: Beyond* coming later this year, Nintendo is reportedly working on bringing *Metroid Prime 2: Echoes* (originally released in 2004) and *Metroid Prime 3: Corruption* (a Wii exclusive from 2007) to the Switch.
Metroid Prime Trilogy Remaster or Standalone Releases
It’s unclear if the upcoming releases will be individual games like *Metroid Prime Remastered*, or a collection like the rumored *Metroid Prime Trilogy* remaster. A trustworthy source indicated back in 2021 that a *Metroid Prime Trilogy* remaster was not only planned, but already finished.
The timing makes this rumor seem unlikely. If Nintendo planned to re-release *Metroid Prime 2* and *Metroid Prime 3*, it would likely have done so before *Metroid Prime 4: Beyond* launches on December 4th, but with enough space between the releases. This leaves Nintendo with very limited options – perhaps a surprise release this month or next, which they’ve done before. However, it’s strange they remastered the first game in 2023 and then waited until the very last minute to consider re-releasing the sequels. It doesn’t feel like a well-thought-out plan, though Nintendo’s strategies often don’t follow a clear pattern.
Just keep in mind that this isn’t official news, so take it with a grain of salt. We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments, or you can discuss it on the ComicBook Forum. Also, would you like to see remasters of *Metroid Prime 2* and *Metroid Prime 3*?
