A highly-rated horror game came out earlier this month, and it’s only available on Xbox Series X. Xbox doesn’t often get exclusive games, especially good ones, making this release stand out. Plus, it’s included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate right now, saving subscribers the full $24.99 price – though we don’t know how long it will stay on the service.
Currently, the horror game Routine, developed by Lunar Software and Raw Fury, has a Metacritic score of 79, which is a good result. Horror games generally receive lower scores than games in most other genres, making 79 a respectable achievement. While Silent Hill f currently holds the top spot for horror games this year with a score of 86, Routine ranks among the top 10. With its score now stable and the year nearly finished, it’s unlikely to move from its current position.
About the Game
If you haven’t heard of Routine yet, it’s a science-fiction horror game played from a first-person perspective, and it’s the first game released by Lunar Software. It’s been well-received, earning a score of 79 on Metacritic, 4 out of 5 stars on the Xbox Store, and a 93% positive rating on Steam.
Routine is a sci-fi horror game played from a first-person perspective, set on a deserted lunar base imagined with an 80s aesthetic. The game starts with you investigating a silent base, quickly shifting from curiosity to a fight for survival. You’ll search for answers while being hunted by an enemy who sees you as the danger. As you uncover clues, you’ll face even more mysteries, and your only option is to keep moving forward.
While currently available only on Xbox Series X, it’s unlikely Routine will stay exclusive forever. It will likely be released on PS5, and potentially even the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. For now, it’s the second highest-rated Xbox Series X game of the year, surpassed only by Avowed.
As a big fan of horror games that really focus on creating a creepy atmosphere and a detailed world, I think Routine is going to be exactly what I’ve been looking for. However, I’ve heard the actual gameplay can be a little basic and not always smooth, so that’s something to be aware of going in.
