A highly popular anime series known for its ‘transported to another world’ theme is returning with a new movie next year. A recently released trailer has given fans their first glimpse of what’s in store. With so many new anime of this type appearing all the time, it’s tough for any one series to really stand out. However, this particular franchise has managed to both capture attention and offer a fresh take on the genre.
Since its anime adaptation began in 2022, The Eminence in Shadow has become incredibly popular with fans. However, the second season unexpectedly ended with news that a third season wouldn’t be made – instead, a movie is planned! A new trailer and poster for The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes were just revealed at AnimeJapan 2026, and you can watch the trailer and see the poster below.
When Does The Eminence in Shadow Movie Come Out?
The highly anticipated movie, The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes, is currently scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters around 2027. Details about a specific release date or if it will be available internationally haven’t been revealed yet. The film will be created by the same team behind the popular anime series, with Kazuya Nakaishi directing at studio Nexus. Makoto Iino is handling character designs, Kanichi Katou is writing the screenplay, and Kenichiro Suehiro is composing the music. Many of the original voice actors are also returning for the film.
The film will feature returning voice actors Seiichiro Yamashita as Cid Kagenou/Shadow, Yui Horie as Akane Nishino, Inori Minase as Beta, and Takehito Koyasu as Mordred. Joining the cast is Yukari Tamura as a new character, Yuka Asakura. Details about Asakura’s role and the overall story are currently unknown.
You Should Watch The Eminence in Shadow

If you haven’t watched The Eminence in Shadow yet, now is the perfect time to start! It’s a really enjoyable anime about a ridiculously powerful character who’s transported to a fantasy world. However, he’s not taking things too seriously – he pretends to be a shadowy hero fighting a made-up conspiracy. The funny thing is, that conspiracy actually turns out to be real!
Though the main character is incredibly strong and a bit clueless, everyone around him is discovering unsettling secrets about their world. This anime is a fun take on the familiar ‘isekai’ genre, offering twists on classic tropes. You can currently stream both seasons on HIDIVE.
