One of the Best N64 Games Is Coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Even though the Nintendo 64 is an older console, many of its classic games are now available through Nintendo Switch Online. With the best N64 game already added, players have been eager for more, and this month, another beloved title joins the service. This game comes from a series that its original creator hasn’t focused on recently, but Nintendo is thankfully keeping it alive.

On December 17th, Rayman 2: The Great Escape will be available to play on Nintendo Switch Online. To access this classic Nintendo 64 3D platformer, you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass subscription. If you’re not familiar with Rayman 2, you can watch the announcement trailer below.

Rayman 2: The Great Escape is a highly-rated game, scoring 90 on Metacritic. While it’s a bit short, that actually makes it ideal for playing on the Nintendo Switch when you only have a few minutes. Although the graphics, camera, and controls might seem a little old-fashioned, Rayman 2 is still a must-play for anyone who enjoys 3D platformers.

As a Switch Online subscriber, I’m always excited to see what new games Nintendo adds, and they’ve been bringing over some classic N64 titles lately. Everyone’s really hoping they drop Super Smash Bros. next – I’ve heard rumors, and that would be amazing! Right now, Nintendo seems to be focusing on their own big games, and stuff like Rayman 2, which is cool too.

Rayman fans have reason to be excited! Ubisoft hasn’t focused on the classic character for a while – his most recent appearance was as a supporting role in the Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope DLC. Hopefully, the release of Rayman 2: The Great Escape on Nintendo Switch Online will remind Ubisoft how popular Rayman is and encourage them to make a new game in the series.

It’s getting increasingly difficult to play classic video games as the industry advances. Modern consoles rarely support games from older generations, and even when they do, it’s usually just a limited selection. Nintendo is well-known for restricting access to its older titles, particularly classic Pokémon games that fans have repeatedly requested for the Nintendo Switch. While emulation offers a way to experience these games, it isn’t without potential drawbacks.
