Okay, so this is awesome! A game that originally came out on the NES way back in 1992 is getting a remake for the Switch, PC, and PS5 after 34 years! I haven’t heard anything about it coming to Xbox or PS4, and while the Switch 2 isn’t officially supported, I guess Switch 2 owners can play the Switch version. The only bummer is we just know it’s coming sometime in 2026 – no specific date yet!
The NES game Little Samson had a strange history. When it first came out, reviews were mixed, but over the years, it’s become a beloved classic. Many now consider it one of the very best – and most overlooked – games on the NES. Its developer, Takeru, unfortunately went out of business just two years after its release, and its publisher, Taito, was later absorbed into Square Enix.
About the Game:
Little Samson is a classic side-scrolling action game similar to Mega Man. You play as young Samson, who teams up with a group of surprising allies to protect the Magic Bells and prevent the evil Prince of Darkness, Ta-Keed, from destroying the land of Forgy.
It’s currently unclear if the re-release, managed by Limited Run Games, will include any enhancements, though Limited Run Games often does improve games with their releases. What’s confirmed is that this is a port of the original game, not a more extensive remaster or remake.
This new release will appeal to fans of the original NES game, which is now quite rare and expensive to collect. Being exclusive to the NES also means it’s hard to play for those without the original hardware.
With so many classic NES games already available through Nintendo Switch Online, there haven’t been many new NES releases this year. Aside from one RPG remake, it’s been a quiet year for retro fans. This new release should be a welcome treat for anyone feeling nostalgic for the NES.
