Rumors suggest Xbox is working on a remake or remaster of a highly-rated role-playing game originally released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s unclear if the game will be exclusive to Xbox Series X or also available on PlayStation 5, but Xbox’s recent remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion hints at a multi-platform release. Like Oblivion, this project is also being handled by Bethesda, and the Oblivion Remastered release last year was well-received and commercially successful.
A new report suggests that Bethesda and Xbox aren’t just remaking Fallout 3, as many have suspected, but are also working on a remake of Fallout: New Vegas. While Windows Central reported this information, they haven’t shared many specifics about the New Vegas remake beyond confirming it’s in development.
One of 2010’s Best Games
Though often compared to the highly acclaimed Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas was a major hit in 2010. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment instead of Bethesda, the original creators of the Fallout series, it’s still considered by many to be a core Fallout game. In fact, a lot of fans actually prefer it, making it a popular choice for a remake – if recent reports are accurate.
Similar to Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas hasn’t aged perfectly in 2026. While the writing, story, and overall feel remain strong, the gameplay and graphics feel dated. Updating the story and writing would be a major undertaking, but the graphics could be significantly improved.
The report calls the project a remake, but it’s more similar to a remaster like the recent version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That earlier release was a remaster, meaning an updated version, rather than a complete rebuild.
