Released in 1984, Ghostbusters quickly became a beloved film. The funny and unique story of a team of paranormal investigators in New York City—who bust ghosts and other supernatural creatures—was a massive success and launched a popular franchise that continues to entertain audiences today. While one of the best Ghostbusters sequels is leaving Netflix, fans won’t have to look far to find it on another streaming service.
The movie Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will no longer be available on Netflix after January 24th. Released in theaters in 2024, the film features Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, and the original Ghostbusters cast – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. Fortunately for fans, it will be available to stream on Hulu starting January 22nd.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Brought The Franchises to a New Generation

Despite receiving some of the weakest reviews in the Ghostbusters series, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire did well with moviegoers, and it’s easy to see why. The film successfully blends nostalgia for the original with a focus on the next generation of Ghostbusters – Egon Spengler’s daughter and grandchildren – who return to New York to revive the team. Mckenna Grace is a standout as Phoebe Spengler, and her character’s story suggests a promising future for the franchise. As of 2024, director and co-writer Gil Kenan confirmed plans for a sequel, though its current status is unknown. However, Dan Aykroyd has stated he and Bill Murray likely won’t be involved in any future films.
If you’re looking to watch more Ghostbusters movies, here’s where you can find them. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now streaming on Hulu. The original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II are currently available to rent. And the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, featuring an all-female team, is streaming on Netflix.
