Fans of the legendary Star Wars sci-fi series now have a chance to download a fresh, free game! However, keep in mind that this offer is exclusively for Amazon Prime members since it’s being provided through Prime Gaming. The game can only be accessed on PC via GOG. So, if you want to grab this deal (which lasts until August 11), you’ll need an Amazon Prime subscription, a PC or laptop to play the game on, and a free GOG account. Fortunately, the game is from the ’90s, so most modern computers should be able to run it smoothly.
The game you’re referring to is simply known as “Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II,” a first-person shooter developed by LucasArts and released in 1997. This game is exclusive to PCs and serves as a sequel to the 1995 release, “Star Wars: Dark Forces.” It’s part of the Star Wars Jedi Knight sub-series. For fans of the storyline, it takes place a year after the events in “Return of the Jedi,” within the extended Star Wars universe. However, it should be noted that this game is not considered part of the official Star Wars canon.
Back in the day, I can’t tell you how many hours I sunk into Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces. It was a game that truly stood out during its time, earning a whopping 91 on Metacritic! When it comes to Star Wars games, it’s often mentioned in the same breath as classics like Knights of the Old Republic and Battlefront II. Not surprisingly, after its release, it got an expansion pack called Mysteries of the Sith, and a sequel known as Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in 2002.
The game Dark Forces established the benchmark for first-person action within the Star Wars universe. Now, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II continues that legacy, offering enhanced elements and greater firepower in stunning 3D graphics. You assume the role of Kyle Katarn, who must find a lightsaber and master the Force to become a Jedi Knight. Along the way, you’ll encounter familiar adversaries like Greedo, Boosk, and stormtroopers, as well as new threats: seven dark Jedi intent on exploiting an ancient burial ground for unimaginable evil. However, remember that your arsenal of 10 weapons and more than a dozen Force powers make you a formidable opponent.
With Prime Gaming, after you’ve claimed it, the Star Wars game becomes yours forever – no subscription necessary to hold onto your free download. Essentially, although a Prime Gaming membership is crucial for claiming the offer initially, you don’t have to keep the subscription in order to maintain access to the game.
