Over time, video games have made significant strides in the realm of television and cinema, and more recently, we’ve witnessed many cherished game franchises brought to life on screen with remarkable accuracy. Although the process has taken some time, one of the finest adaptations is now back after a two-year hiatus, displaying no signs of slowing down.
At last, enthusiasts can commence the much-anticipated second installment of Twisted Metal! The initial three episodes are now streaming on Peacock. It’s been a wait of two years since season 1 concluded the first part of John and Quiet’s saga, but this time around, the second chapter has exciting prospects for fans of the series, as there will indeed be a tournament taking place.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say that back in season 1, it was all about getting acquainted with John (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz). We needed that time to bond before diving into the tournament. But now, things have changed! The stage is set, and fans can expect a whole lot more of what made season 1 shine, plus some mind-blowing action sequences that are going to make season 1 look like child’s play.
Right now, Twisted Metal has a 79% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but its audience score is even more impressive at 93%. At the moment, viewers can stream the initial three episodes of season 2 on Peacock. Following that, the series will air two episodes every Thursday. On August 28th, all remaining three episodes (making a total of 12) will be released simultaneously, similar to the premiere.
During a past press gathering for the series, the showrunner, Michael Jonathan Smith, disclosed the reasoning behind designing the show with a gradual progression towards a tournament instead of opting for a tournament immediately in the first season.
Smith explained, ‘It’s important for you to empathize with these characters. We’re creating a unique post-apocalyptic setting, and we want you to grasp its intricacies, the characters’ personalities, and how the narrative revolves around John and Quiet. Their bond is central to the story, and their emotional journey is something we hope you’ll follow closely.’
Smith explained that our goal was to create something that qualified for the tournament, making its participation meaningful. This way, when the tournament arrives, participants can instantly connect with the story and characters, ready to enjoy themselves. It’s fascinating to consider what it feels like for so many individuals to gather in one place, witnessing life-or-death situations, and yet, driven by their personal ambitions. That’s what makes these games exceptional – every character has a purpose or goal.
You can watch the first three episodes of Twisted Metal season 2 right now on Peacock.
