What makes GAMMA unique in the game STALKER is that the traders don’t sell complete weapons or armor. Instead, they focus on trading ammo, food, and the individual parts you need to repair or build gear, along with other useful supplies, all within the game’s version of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, known as “The Zone.”

To improve your abilities, you’ll need to find items – either hidden in containers, dropped by enemies, or earned as quest rewards. However, these items are usually damaged, so you’ll spend a lot of time either collecting parts to repair them or saving up to buy new ones.

These changes create a slower, more challenging experience overall, but they also make each moment of gameplay more exciting and immersive. You’ll be encouraged to explore every corner of the world and carefully consider which missions to take on. Unlike the standard Anomaly mode, GAMMA prevents you from quickly earning money through simple early-game tasks and rushing to become overpowered.

I’ve been really getting into a slower, more deliberate playstyle in this game, and it’s awesome. I’ve also added some mods that make gunfights *much* more dangerous and introduce realistic damage – we’re talking about getting hurt in specific spots. You really have to think before rushing into a fight, whether it’s with bandits or the Zone’s creatures. A broken leg, for instance, completely ruins your ability to sprint, so you have to be super careful about cover and tactics!

Wow, GAMMA is seriously intense! It’s way more challenging than a typical STALKER game, that’s for sure. But honestly, it’s also unbelievably immersive – the graphics overhaul really pulls you in. What’s great is that, even though it’s tough, it *is* fair. If you put in the time and learn the ropes, you absolutely can beat it, and when you do, the feeling is amazing!

GAMMA has always been a little difficult to install, as it usually meant finding instructions on their Discord server. But now, thanks to its release on GOG, getting started is much simpler than before. There’s just one small drawback to using the GOG version, though.

To get STALKER GAMMA, you need to own either the 2010 game STALKER: Call of Pripyat or the newer STALKER 2, and you must purchase them through the GOG store. While the modpack itself is free, Call of Pripyat currently costs $13.99 on GOG (normally $20), and STALKER 2 is $41.99 (usually $59.99).

I already own these games on Steam, so I can’t use GOG to play GAMMA without buying them all over again, and I’m not willing to do that.
