Anime fans have been asking for more truly frightening stories. While works like those by Junji Ito offer some chills, overall horror is lacking in the anime world. Now, a particularly scary video game recently released is getting a manga adaptation, which increases the chances of it becoming an anime series. Many successful video games have been adapted into manga and anime – think Cyberpunk 2077, Persona, League of Legends, Castlevania, and Pokemon – and Konami is now doing the same with one of their most popular franchises.
Last year, the video game Silent Hill f quickly became a hit, offering a fresh perspective on the iconic town known alongside Resident Evil. Set in Japan, the game follows a young girl as she confronts frightening creatures and tries to uncover the mystery behind what happened to her village. To celebrate its six-month anniversary, the creators announced on social media that a comic book adaptation of Silent Hill f is in the works. It will be published on Young Ace UP, with a new ending written by Ryukishi07 and illustrations by Gokin Ame. More details will be shared soon.

Silent Hill’s Continued Popularity

Unlike most games in the Silent Hill series, which are set in North America, Silent Hill f offers a different experience. The original Silent Hill, first appearing on PlayStation in 1999, is known for its unsettling supernatural atmosphere, shaped by cults and monsters born from the characters’ minds. Over the years, Konami has released several Silent Hill games, plus three live-action movies, and has plans for even more. Given its popularity, an anime adaptation would be a natural next step as the Silent Hill universe continues to expand.
I’ve been following the news about the upcoming Silent Hill manga adaptation, and here’s what I’ve gathered. Konami hasn’t announced a release date yet, but the creator involved, Ryukishi07, is a pretty experienced manga writer. You might recognize his work like Higurashi When They Cry and Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni. He even wrote the story for Silent Hill f, so he clearly understands the game’s universe. The artist, Gokin Ame, might be newer to manga, but their artwork definitely captures the atmosphere of Silent Hill, as you can see. Hopefully, this manga will be a success and pave the way for a proper Silent Hill anime series!
