Though the first six Avengers had a memorable conclusion in Avengers: Endgame, some of those heroes are still appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will be featured in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The future of Hawkeye is less certain, as he hasn’t been seen since his own TV series four years ago, but Jeremy Renner is eager to film a second season, which is currently being discussed. Fans are now speculating whether Hawkeye will team up with the Avengers to battle Doctor Doom in upcoming movies.
While on the radio show The Breakfast Club (as reported by The Playlist), Jeremy Renner was asked about potentially appearing in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. He simply replied, “No,” suggesting his time as Hawkeye in future Marvel films is over.
Is Jeremy Renner Telling the Truth About Avengers: Doomsday?

As Andrew Garfield famously showed, Marvel actors often don’t reveal everything about potential future projects. The studio carefully controls when information about its films and shows is released, so it’s possible Jeremy Renner is deliberately keeping a surprise under wraps. Having been with the MCU for a while, he’s familiar with this strategy. Renner wasn’t included in the initial cast announcement for Doomsday, suggesting Marvel isn’t ready to confirm his involvement – if he’s in the movie at all.
Soon after the popular livestream showcasing the Doomsday chairs, Kevin Feige promised more casting news would be coming. However, that hasn’t happened yet, even though filming for Doomsday appears to be finished. Given Hawkeye’s past in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jeremy Renner always seemed like a likely candidate to join the cast. While he hasn’t been central to the Multiverse Saga so far, it would be surprising to leave such a well-known hero out of the fight against Doctor Doom, especially considering Hawkeye’s experience battling powerful enemies – even with just a bow and arrow.
It’s logical that Hawkeye is being discussed as a possible cameo in upcoming Marvel films like Doomsday or Secret Wars, but that doesn’t guarantee he’ll be in them. Doomsday already has a large cast with many superhero teams, making it a complex project to balance. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has also stated that not every character will make it into these Avengerslevel movies, which isn’t surprising. Disney+ has significantly expanded the number of MCU characters, and it’s simply impossible to include everyone in one film. The earlier Infinity Saga* films were more focused, drawing from a smaller pool of established heroes. Now, there are just too many characters to fit comfortably into a single movie.
Look, I love Hawkeye, and seeing Renner team up with the Avengers again would be amazing. But honestly, he should only return if it makes sense for the story. I’m all for cameos, but a good narrative is what really matters. After everything Marvel’s been through lately, it’s crucial that Doomsday and Secret Wars really deliver and give the Multiverse Saga a fantastic ending. Franchises sometimes get caught up in just giving fans what they want instead of telling a compelling story, and I’d hate to see Hawkeye get shoehorned in just for that reason.
