Anime is everywhere right now! Both Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc topped the box office when they were released in Western theaters. As anime grows in popularity, live-action adaptations of popular series are becoming more common. Netflix’s live-action version of One Piece has been a huge success, and it’s led to a surprising collaboration: Sesame Street is celebrating Halloween with a nod to the future King of the Pirates.
To celebrate Sesame Street coming to Netflix on November 10th, the show’s characters are dressed as stars from popular Netflix shows and movies. Oscar the Grouch is channeling Wednesday Addams, Bert and Ernie are sporting looks from Stranger Things, and Elmo is dressed as the pirate Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece – a nod to the anime’s growing popularity. With the second season of the live-action One Piece arriving on Netflix next March, this fun crossover is part of the show’s marketing campaign. Check out the hilarious images below!
Grand Line Street
Despite many popular franchises getting anime adaptations, Sesame Street hasn’t been one of them – though with shows like Star Wars trying out the anime style, anything is possible. Anime isn’t unfamiliar with shows aimed at younger audiences; even Tom and Jerry and Godzilla have received anime versions geared towards kids. Now that Netflix is heavily invested in anime and also owns Sesame Street, we might see Elmo and his friends explore this type of animation in the future.
The second season of One Piece won’t immediately begin the Alabasta Arc, but the Straw Hat crew will still face exciting new challenges. Following their entry into the Grand Line at the end of the first season, the next story will take them to Loguetown, the famous town where Gol D. Roger died. Along the way, they’ll also visit important locations like Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Drum Island, and Little Garden.
Both the anime and manga versions of One Piece are currently following the Straw Hat Pirates’ last adventure. Although the story is heading towards its conclusion thanks to creator Eiichiro Oda, it will likely take several years to finish. However it ends, One Piece is sure to have a significant and lasting impact on the anime world.
