Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! The One Piece manga will be back with Chapter 1163 after a short break. This is the second time in less than a month the manga has paused publication, due to creator Eiichiro Oda’s health. The current storyline, the Elbaf Arc, has been revealing a new backstory that started just before Luffy and his crew joined the battle against the Holy Knights. The story mainly focuses on one character, but it takes a surprising turn with the introduction of Rocks D. Xebec – a name that even struck fear into experienced Marine soldiers. While Xebec has been hinted at before, with a brief glimpse of his silhouette, this backstory properly reveals him as Blackbeard’s father.
The World Government made him the scapegoat for everything that happened at God Valley, despite the Native Hunting Competition being set up to target him. The current flashback in the Elbaf Arc is revealing the full story of that day, and the preview for Chapter 1163 suggests the God Valley Incident is nearing its conclusion. The preview translation comes from @pewpiece, a trusted source for One Piece news. Although the incident itself is ending, the backstory will continue for a while longer.
One Piece’s Elbaf Arc Will Continue Harald’s Past Even After the God Valley Flashback Ends

The current backstory isn’t primarily about solving the mystery of the God Valley Incident, although it has led to that revelation. Instead, it will reveal who killed Harald, the highly respected and powerful king of Elbaf. The story begins with the events at Aurust Castle from over 14 years ago, but quickly moves back more than a hundred years to when Harald was a young and impulsive adventurer. During his travels, Harald became aware of the fear people had towards Giants, and he made a promise to change that perception.
I witnessed Harald attempt to forge new relationships with the World Government, hoping to bring Elbaf into the fold of affiliated nations. He also really wanted to open up trade with the outside world – Elbaf had been isolated for centuries, and he felt it was time to change that. What struck me most was his emphasis on learning; he wasn’t about force, but about building up his people’s minds, and he established schools to do just that. Sadly, his efforts to build a better future for Elbaf were cut short – he died over fourteen years ago. Though his son, Loki, was accused of a terrible crime, I knew the real story was much more complex.
The story hints that understanding Harald’s death requires us to learn about his life. Once the flashback to God Valley and Xebec’s death is finished, the story will return to Harald’s past. While we don’t know exactly when we’ll find out who killed him, it will likely be several weeks before that mystery is solved. The events of God Valley happened 38 years ago, meaning there are still 24 years of Harald’s history left to uncover, revealing how things ultimately went wrong for him.
