The anime and manga series One Piece is known for its incredibly powerful characters, and Shanks has always been considered one of the strongest. Recent developments in the story suggest there may be someone even more powerful. For years, Shanks has been a mysterious figure, but we’re now learning about his family history. It’s been revealed that he comes from the Figarland family, who are highly influential in the Holy Land. With his father now identified as one of the Five Elders, it’s becoming clear that Shanks’ strength comes from his royal bloodline and inherited potential.
If the recent theories are correct, Shanks might have an older twin brother named Shamrock who is even more powerful. The latest chapter of One Piece, titled “Ida’s Sons,” hints at this possibility by starting to reveal details about Shanks’ past. The chapter shows Shanks was in the Holy Land to secretly gather information, but a comment made by Figarland suggests Shamrock could be stronger than him.
One Piece’s Character Stronger Than Shanks Might After All Be His Evil Version

The revelation that Shamrock is Shanks’ older twin brother solved the mystery of who was responsible for the evil deeds previously attributed to Shanks – it turned out to be Shamrock. When Shamrock first appeared, he nearly killed Loki, a remarkably powerful giant, even while Loki was restrained, demonstrating Shamrock’s incredible strength. However, chapter 1167 of One Piece suggests that if Shanks, who is already very strong, were to make a deeper agreement with Imu (called the Depths Covenant), he could become as powerful as Shamrock. This confirms that during the flashback, Shamrock was stronger than Shanks.
Since their last encounter, Shamrock likely improved his abilities, while Shanks may have become weaker due to losing his arm. Although Shanks intentionally sacrificed his arm to free himself from Imu’s control – signified by a mark – losing a limb is a major disadvantage for a swordsman.
Shamrock is emerging as a major villain in One Piece, and the story is setting him up as a powerful opponent—potentially even stronger than Shanks. This could be leading to a dramatic showdown between them, representing a classic battle between good and evil. However, Shanks remains an enigmatic and consistently powerful figure. We won’t know for sure if Shamrock is truly stronger until they finally fight.
