Fans of One Piece recently received disappointing news: another delay in new releases. While 2026 promises to be a huge year for the series, getting there will take time. Although some new content is planned for this spring, it won’t be the regular weekly updates fans are used to, making the wait for new chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s manga even harder.
As a huge One Piece fan, I know a lot of us have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter! We had a bit of a wait over the holidays with Weekly Shonen Jump‘s break, but it looked like things were getting back on track. Unfortunately, Shueisha just announced that Chapter 1172 is going to be delayed – which means we’ll have to wait even longer to see what happens next, probably later this month. I saw the news over on X (formerly Twitter) thanks to @WSJ_manga, and it’s a bit of a bummer, but hopefully it’ll be worth the wait!
One Piece Manga Hit By First Delay in 2026

The newest chapter of One Piece, Chapter 1171, will be released in Shonen Jump this Sunday, January 18th. However, after that, the series will take a break. This means fans will only receive one new chapter in January, and will have to wait even longer to see how the story unfolds in the climax of the Elbaph Arc. This break is especially disappointing since new episodes of the anime aren’t currently available either.
At the start of the year, One Piece is changing how it releases new episodes. Instead of weekly releases, the anime will now follow a seasonal schedule, similar to many other anime series. Each year will have 26 episodes, divided into shorter seasons. This spring, the anime will begin adapting the Elbaph Arc, and the pacing will more closely follow the original manga by Oda.
What’s New for One Piece in 2026?

The next season of One Piece, called the Elbaph Arc, will begin airing in Japan on April 5th, 2026, as part of the spring anime lineup. It’s planned to have 26 episodes and continue through the end of the year. The creators have announced they’ll be adapting the manga more closely than before, aiming for roughly one chapter of the manga per anime episode. Beyond this, even more One Piece projects are also in development.
I’m excited for the first part of One Piece: Into the Grand Line to hit Netflix on March 10th! It looks like they’re covering a lot of ground in this season – Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island are all on the agenda. Interestingly, they’re already filming the third season, which will wrap up the Alabasta Saga. There’s plenty more One Piece coming, but this means waiting until March feels a little harder, especially after a long January!
