Fans of One Piece have a lot to anticipate this year, but there’s some disappointing news about the upcoming spinoff anime focusing on the series’ female characters. With a new season of the live-action show, a new anime season, and other projects on the way, One Piece is set to be huge this year. A new spinoff focusing on Nami was announced for release this spring, but recent updates have revealed some unwelcome news about it.
A new anime project called One Piece: Heroines was announced, originally based on a spinoff novel focusing on the series’ popular female characters. However, it’s now been confirmed that this will be a single, special episode. The episode will tell a unique story about Nami and is scheduled to air on July 5, 2026.
One Piece: Heroines Spinoff Anime Confirms It’s Only a Single Episode
The new One Piece spinoff, Heroines, will be released in Japan on July 5th. However, there’s no news yet about when it will be available outside of Japan. Since the anime is confirmed to be just one episode long, it makes sense that the only preview footage released so far features Nami. The original Heroines spinoff told stories focusing on different characters, but it appears the anime adaptation will only cover Nami’s story from the original novel.
The upcoming spinoff will feature some new content, including the character Nico Robin, who is also getting a visual update to fit the spinoff’s style. While she had her own separate story in the original novels by Jun Esaka and Sayaka Suwa, she wasn’t part of Nami’s storyline. Because the anime adaptation is just one episode, they’ve decided to include her. Haruka Kamatami will direct the spinoff for Toei Animation, with Takashi Kojima designing the characters and Momoka Toyoda writing the script.
What’s Next for One Piece in 2026?

Even with the new special, One Piece has more planned for this year. The main anime series will return on April 5th as part of the Spring 2026 season, and Crunchyroll will stream the new episodes in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. And that’s not all – fans can expect even more content soon!
The live-action adaptation of One Piece is coming back to Netflix with its second season on March 10th. This season will follow Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hats, as they enter the Grand Line, and it will lay the groundwork for storylines in the already-planned third season. There’s plenty more One Piece content on the way, too!
