Fans are eagerly awaiting the second season of the live-action One Piece series, which arrives on Netflix in just a few days. Interestingly, the series’ creator, Eiichiro Oda, already has an idea of how the adaptation will eventually conclude. Considering Oda’s One Piece has been a staple of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine for almost thirty years and continues to thrive, many wondered how long a live-action version could realistically run when it was first announced.
The live-action adaptation of One Piece is getting a second season on Netflix this week, and a third is already being filmed. This has fans curious about how long the show could run, given the sheer size of Eiichiro Oda’s original manga. According to Mackenyu, who plays Roronoa Zoro, Oda actually has a plan for the series’ overall length and knows which story arc will serve as its finale, as he shared with The Movie Podcast.
One Piece Creator Knows Where He Wants Live-Action Series to End

Mackenyu hinted that Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has a clear plan for the live-action series’ future. He explained that Oda shared the specific story arc he envisions for the show with the cast, and this knowledge greatly excited them. While the cast is careful not to reveal any spoilers, fans can look forward to seeing this particular arc adapted in the live-action series.
It was always going to be a challenge to conclude the live-action One Piece series. Since the original manga doesn’t have an ending yet, and its biggest mysteries remain unsolved, this adaptation needed to create its own finale. This could have happened either if Netflix had cancelled the show prematurely, or through a planned conclusion. It appears Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has a natural way to end the series, potentially setting up future storylines.
How Will One Piece Live-Action End?
The live-action adaptation of One Piece, titled One Piece: Into the Grand Line, will debut on Netflix on March 10th. The first season will cover the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island storylines from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga. Netflix has already greenlit a third season, and Oda has confirmed it will finish adapting the Alabasta arc. While Mackenyu’s recent hints don’t seem to be about the third season, more news might be coming sooner than fans think.
The upcoming live-action series will cover a significant portion of the Grand Line, finishing with the Alabasta arc. However, even larger conflicts are still to come. If the show continues for several years, potentially reaching a fourth or even fifth season, it might conclude before reaching the time skip – the point in the original story where the search for the treasure truly begins. Given everything that happens in the story, ending it there would be a satisfying conclusion.
