The creator of One Piece recently surprised fans by revealing the identity of one of the Straw Hat crew’s fathers, finally answering a long-standing mystery. One Piece has been published in Weekly Shonen Jump for almost 30 years, and despite its long run, many questions about the series remain unanswered. While the backgrounds of some Straw Hat crew members and their families are known, the origins of others – including their parents – have remained a complete secret.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has confirmed a surprising connection between Franky and the villainous Queen. A fan on X (@pewpiece) noticed the possibility that Franky was Queen’s son, and Oda confirmed it to be true. While Franky was raised by Tom after being orphaned, it’s now revealed he was one of Queen’s abandoned children. Oda himself seemed surprised when realizing this connection.
One Piece Creator Reveals Queen Is Franky’s Father

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, recently responded to fans who discovered a surprising connection! They noticed that Queen’s child and Franky share the same birth year, and the year Queen abandoned his child lines up with the year Tom took Franky in. Oda admitted this was a hidden clue in the One Piece Encyclopedia and Vivre Cards, and he hadn’t intended for fans to figure it out so soon. He jokingly said he’ll have to come up with a way to explain it, as it would be strange if the characters didn’t already know. It seems Oda intentionally left clues for fans to discover, rather than explicitly revealing the connection himself.
It’s a shame Franky didn’t find out Queen was his father. A scene between them could have been really interesting. However, the Wano Country arc was already packed with battles and storylines for many characters. Adding that connection for Franky might have been too much to handle with everything else going on.
What Does This Mean for Franky?

Whether or not Queen is Franky’s father isn’t a crucial part of the story. If the author hadn’t made it a significant plot point, it’s simply a detail from Franky’s history that adds to his character. However, this also highlights a pattern where characters like Franky don’t get the same level of development as other core members of the Straw Hat crew. It feels like a potentially important part of Franky’s story was overlooked and never fully explored.
It’s disappointing that Franky’s connection to Vegapunk felt underdeveloped. He spent a whole story arc on Vegapunk’s island, even basing his body modifications on her work, but they didn’t share much meaningful time together. As the story nears its end, it’s clear Oda won’t have time to fully explore every plotline, and some things will inevitably have to be cut.
