Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, often introduces key characters by initially hiding their full appearance, revealing it later when the story is ready. Now, One Piece fans have a unique opportunity to potentially make Oda reveal a character’s design sooner than planned. This character is incredibly important to the story – they were first mentioned over ten years ago during the Fish-Man Island Arc. Since then, the story has hinted at their significance, and a silhouette was even shown during the Egghead Arc.
Fans will soon get a chance to see what the legendary pirate Joy Boy looks like! The second global popularity poll for One Piece, called WORLD TOP 100, starts on March 4, 2026, and runs until June 11. The results, including artwork of the top 100 characters, will be revealed in August. This means fans can potentially guarantee new artwork of Joy Boy—and other currently unseen characters—by voting for them in the poll.
One Piece Fans Can Bring Mysterious Characters Into Full View Through Votes
Both Joy Boy and Imu are currently presented as enigmatic figures, appearing mostly as shadows. Imu is widely believed to be the series’ ultimate villain. A recent popularity poll, encompassing over 1,500 characters from the entire One Piece story (chapters 1-1166), offers a chance for fans to influence the series. If Imu places within the top 100, creator Eiichiro Oda will create a special illustration of the character. However, given the importance of both Joy Boy and Imu to the overall story, and the fact that their appearances are being deliberately kept secret for a future reveal, any special illustrations might still show them in silhouette.
It’s also possible we’ll learn more about the characters Imu and Joyboy directly through the One Piece manga itself. The current storyline is reaching a critical point, focusing on Imu and Luffy’s upcoming confrontation. A flashback could reveal their full appearances, and it’s likely creator Eiichiro Oda is considering this option before the results of the fan popularity poll are announced. Ultimately, One Piece fans who want to see special illustrations of Imu and Joyboy should consistently vote for them and await the poll results in August 2026.
