As fans were still reeling from recent surprises regarding Harald and Rocks, “One Piece” continued to astonish its audience with another intriguing lore reveal, this time focusing on the enigmatic character Shanks. Despite playing a pivotal role in setting Luffy’s journey and the overall narrative of “One Piece,” much about Shanks – his past, motivations, or ultimate goal – remains shrouded in mystery. Recently, however, “One Piece” has been delving deeper into Shanks’ character, beginning with the disclosure that he is fated, a title known as a “child of fate.” Now, “One Piece” has also begun to shed light on one of the most pressing questions about Shanks’ origins.
Intriguingly, Chapter 1158 returns us to God Valley, a trip taken a year before the notorious God Valley Incident and the Native Hunting Competition. This chapter offers some insight into Shamrock and Shanks’ mother, who possesses long red hair similar to her sons, suggesting they were both born on God Valley. Although viewers don’t see Shanks’ mother’s face because the twins are in a stroller and only a year old at this moment in time, it is probable that they grew up on God Valley from their very beginnings. Shamrock also mentions visiting God Valley exactly a year ago in the most recent chapter, suggesting that both Shanks and Shamrock spent their early years on God Valley with their mother. If true, this could be the key to understanding how the infants were present during the dangerous Native Hunting Competition and ultimately found themselves within the treasure chest that wound up on Roger’s ship.
One Piece Finally Explains How Shanks Ended Up at God Valley
It’s not surprising that the film “One Piece Film: Red” garnered a lot of attention since it primarily focused on the enigmatic character, Shanks. While the movie did shed light on Shanks’ lineage in Figarland, the most significant disclosures were actually made in the special pamphlet, “One Piece Volume 4 Billion,” distributed to select viewers at the film’s release. In this publication, readers first discovered how Shanks came into Roger’s custody, with the narrative even featuring a preliminary draft of the Roger Pirates discovering baby Shanks in a treasure chest after the God Valley Incident. Interestingly enough, the depiction of baby Shanks from Chapter 1158 closely resembles these discarded sketches from “Volume 4 Billion,” including his wide smile and outstretched arms.
In the Egghead Arc, it became clear that these treasure chests held the rewards for the Native Hunting Competition, such as the infamous Devil Fruits eventually obtained by Kuma and Kaido. It remains a mystery how Shanks wound up in one of these chests and if he and Shamrock were intended to be part of the competition’s prizes. In Chapter 1096, Figarland Garling is shown saying, “Look at this, children,” as the contest begins, but it is uncertain whether he was speaking to Shanks and Shamrock or to the young-looking Yonko members participating alongside him.
Initially, the main query revolved around why Shamrock would expose his children to such a hazardous setting. However, Chapter 1158 sheds light on this issue for readers. Despite this revelation, numerous questions remain unanswered, like how Roger became aware of Shanks’ name when it was his biological mother who gave him that name and his estranged twin. Although this is purely conjectural, it might be that Shamrock’s mother and Shanks secretly stored the two in treasure chests, and it was merely coincidence that one found its way onto the Oro Jackson ship.
Despite the supposed privileges of being brought up by pirates, it’s evident that growing up as a Celestial Dragon was far from ideal, given their ruthless behavior even towards children, as shown during Kuma’s flashback. Intriguingly, Shanks and Shamrock were chosen for the contest possibly because of destiny’s favor on Shanks. As the story unfolds, it seems to be heading towards a major revelation about the God Valley Incident, offering fans long-awaited answers and a fresh perspective on this significant event.
