The current Elbaph Arc in One Piece is reaching a critical point as the story heads towards its final saga and the World Government prepares for war. Fans have long anticipated that this arc would be incredibly important, and it’s already delivering. While the main conflict is still unfolding, we’ve learned a lot, including the introduction of the Holy Knights, the truth about Rocks D. Xebec, information about Blackbeard’s family, and finally, a reveal of Imu’s appearance. Now that the series’ main villain has shown up, it’s clear things are about to get even more intense. Chapter 1179 was particularly important, not only for revealing Imu, but also for sharing major details about the consequences of Luffy’s Devil Fruit awakening – something the World Government is still struggling with.
The World Government’s Struggles Continue As They Plan For the Final War

Honestly, things are a total mess in Mariejois right now! It started with food shortages after the Reverie, but it’s been downhill ever since Wano ended. The Five Elders really tried to shut down Vegapunk’s broadcast, but it was a complete failure. Now everyone knows about the Void Century, and the race to Laugh Tale is officially ON! And to top it all off, taking down Elbaph is proving way harder than they expected, especially with Luffy and his crew showing up there. It’s a really chaotic time!
Although Luffy isn’t directly causing the World Government’s troubles, the Five Elders believe he’s connected to everything going wrong. Saint Figarland Garling points out that problems started around the time Nika appeared, and he’s questioning whether this is just bad luck or something destined to happen. While it might seem like a stressed reaction, his concerns are valid given everything that’s happened in the story so far.
Luffy’s Devil Fruit Awakening Changes The Course of This Era
All the events unfolding in the Final Saga, and those yet to come, connect to the mural shown in Chapter 1138, which illustrates the three worlds. The ancient writings of Harley hold historical information, but because the language is unreadable, there are many different understandings of Nika, the Sun God. Some think Nika is a king, a god who brings destruction, a god who brings freedom, or even a playful god. However, despite these varied interpretations, one thing is clear: Nika appears whenever the world is on the brink of significant change.
The world has faced complete destruction twice before. Both times occurred long ago, before the commonly known ‘Void Century,’ and involved the figure of Nika. The second destruction happened 800 years ago when a powerful individual named Joyboy possessed the power of the Sun God. It’s significant that Nika was central to the chaos in both events. This legendary warrior, known for fighting for freedom, continues to inspire those who are oppressed. The strong desire for liberation eventually took the form of a unique Devil Fruit, which chose Luffy as its user. While Luffy doesn’t yet understand the extent of his future impact, many are already preparing for the changes his arrival will bring, recognizing the connection to Nika.
