In the recently concluded Episode 1136 of the One Piece anime, we delved into Kuma’s backstory. From now on, the series will move forward to the peak of the Egghead storyline. With Kuma’s past now clear, everything is neatly in place, leading up to an even more thrilling showdown against Saint Saturn Jaygarcia. Driven by revenge for her father’s tragic fate, Bonney stands at the center of this battle. This turning point signifies the start of the final act in the Egghead arc. Interestingly, Luffy, whom Kuma had faith in as a savior, is set to play a pivotal role in helping Bonney break free from the grip of Saturn.
Announcing an extra dash of thrill to the peak of the storyline, it’s been confirmed on the official One Piece website that a fresh ending theme tune is about to debut. This change kicks off from Episode 1139, scheduled for airing on Sunday, August 10th, 2025. The Japanese hip-hop group CHAMELEON LIME WHOOPIEPIE will be the ones responsible for the new ending theme titled PUNKS. Before the episode drops, the band will perform this theme live at the ONE PIECE DAY’25 event, mere hours before the broadcast that evening. The following day, the new ending song will become available to stream on various music platforms.

With Kuma’s backstory now complete, we’ve reached the peak of the Egghead storyline. Given that Kuma’s past unfolded over approximately 20 chapters in the source material, it seems likely that the new theme song will align with these episodes, encapsulating Egghead’s blend of vintage punk and futuristic flair. The impending showdown against Saturn, where even Vegapunk is a significant target, promises high-octane fights involving advanced technology. The pulsating energy of punk rock, along with Luffy and Bonney embodying the rebellious spirit associated with this genre, suggests that the ending theme “PUNKS” will subtly underscore the intense narrative climax of the Egghead storyline.
A significant aspect of the current storyline involves Vegapunk and his satellites, all named “Punk,” which may hint at a deeper connection in the new ending theme. Regardless, incorporating a punk rock-inspired theme song could significantly enhance One Piece, possibly positioning it among the best tracks of the series. The active J-pop band CHAMELEON LIME WHOOPIEPIE, who have been creating music since 2016, might find their contribution to One Piece as impactful as Creepy Nuts’ memorable songs for Dandadan and Mashle: Magic and Muscles.
