Roronoa Zoro is a hugely popular character in the long-running anime and manga series, One Piece, which began in Weekly Shonen Jump. As One Piece has become one of the most famous anime shows ever, its world, the Grand Line, has also grown in popularity. Recently, however, a man nicknamed “real-life Zoro” was arrested in Japan. Don’t worry, though – this isn’t the Zoro from the new Netflix live-action series!
A 47-year-old man in Japan was recently arrested by police in Karatsu for carrying knives in a way that resembled the popular anime character Roronoa Zoro from One Piece. Zoro is famous for fighting with three swords – one in each hand and one held in his mouth. The man, dubbed “real life Zoro,” was seen walking down the street carrying knives in a similar manner, but claims he was simply on his way to pick up vegetables from a friend. The publisher of One Piece, Shueisha, has not yet commented on the incident.
Zoro’s Bright Future

Roronoa Zoro and all fans of One Piece have a lot to anticipate. The anime is making a significant change this year, switching from weekly to bi-weekly episodes for the first time in decades. Although new episodes are currently paused, Toei Animation plans to introduce the Straw Hat Pirates to the land of giants, Elbaph. Plus, a remake is coming soon from Netflix and Wit Studio, meaning exciting things are on the horizon for anime viewers.
Good news for One Piece fans! Besides the anime, Netflix is releasing the second season of its live-action series this March. This season will feature new characters, both allies like Tony Tony Chopper and enemies like Crocodile and Wapol, giving Zoro plenty of action. If the show stays true to the original story, Zoro will even face a surprising opponent: Monkey D. Luffy!
Throughout the entire One Piece series, Zoro has been determined to become the greatest swordsman in the world. However, Mihawk, the leader of the Cross Guild, currently holds that title. It’s likely we’ll finally see a rematch between these two legendary swordsmen before the series ends.
