One Piece Reveals A Secret Warlord in the Most Genius Way

As fans were starting to feel hopeful about Kuma and Bonney’s situation in “One Piece,” the latest episode has added another emotional blow by revealing that Kuma sacrificed his memories and became a mindless cyborg for Bonney. Not only did this twist cause more pain for fans, but it also introduced a new, unknown member of the Seven Warlords in “One Piece.” This secret character is a fresh addition to the series that viewers have yet to encounter.

In Episode 1134 of One Piece, we learn how Kuma transformed from a member of the Revolutionary Army into one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. The story explains that this was another requirement set by St. Saturn for the manipulation and militarization of Kuma, who at that time was essentially just a pirate. Furthermore, it is disclosed in this episode that Kuma assumed the role of a Warlord who had been defeated by Ace, as dictated by St. Saturn.

One Piece’s Anime Introduces A New Warlord Defeated by Ace

In an intriguing moment of the episode, I couldn’t help but join in the collective surprise shared by Ace, Jimbei, Marco, Whitebeard, and Teech as Jinbe broke the news about Kuma being appointed a Warlord. What made this revelation even more captivating was that the name of this Warlord, Hanafuda, wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the manga at that point. Instead, Oda subtly unveiled Hanafuda’s identity through the SBS sections that followed, making this scene in the anime not only a fresh take but also a brilliant stroke of genius by adding an original twist to the storyline.

In the series, fans have previously been informed about Ace’s achievements but not specifically about him defeating a Warlord. However, in the most recent episode, we finally discover that Ace did indeed defeat one of the Warlords. Given Luffy’s initial success in overcoming Warlords during his solo journey, it’s not completely unexpected that Ace also managed to take down one.

In Episode 1134, events occur around four years before the current time, and Ace appears to be part of Whitebeard’s crew. However, it’s challenging to determine precisely when Ace defeated Hanafuda. Since St. Saturn mentions Hanafuda was defeated recently and still refers to Ace as a rookie, it seems this fight might have taken place during Ace’s visit to Wano. Given the anime’s tendency to incorporate SBS elements into the series, there’s a chance that Hanafuda could make his canonical debut through another flashback scene in the future. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing more of Hanafuda because they love his character design, and it’s unfortunate that he is currently only depicted in the SBS section.

Who is Hanafuda in One Piece?

Initially introduced in Volume 109’s SBS, Oda only disclosed a few details about Hanafuda: his name, his title as the “King of Lizards,” and his pastime of collecting Ancient Zoan devil fruits. Fans quickly speculated a link to Kaido, which was later confirmed in Volume 111’s SBS when Oda acknowledged that both characters were once rivals. Hanafuda admired Kaido’s power so much that they eventually formed an alliance. Much like Doflamingo, who supplied artificial devil fruits to Kaido, Hanafuda provided the real ones he had collected.

Intriguingly, what captivated me most about Hanafuda was discovering that he is none other than the father of Ulti and Page One – a revelation that sheds light on their unusual presence within Kaido’s crew. The intrigue deepens as it transpires that Hanafuda had entrusted them to his care, thus explaining their sibling bond within the pirate ranks. Regarding Hanafuda’s destiny, after succumbing to Ace in battle, the World Government deprived him of his title. In his journey to reconnect with his children, Hanafuda tragically met his end at the hands of other marauding pirates.

In summary, subtly referencing Hanafuda in a casual conversation was a shrewd decision since fans who only watch the anime might not have been aware that this enigmatic Warlord Ace had previously defeated it otherwise. Although One Piece’s filler episodes have been less engaging recently, it deserves recognition for becoming increasingly strategic with additional scenes and bold in taking creative liberties. Consequently, the anime has improved due to these thoughtful additions.

One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
