Be warned: this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! The story of One Piece is about to resume its main conflict, as the current flashback is nearing its conclusion. This flashback began shortly after the villains attacked Elbaph, revealing the truth behind the death of the country’s king, Harald, fourteen years ago. While Loki has been blamed for killing his father and eating a powerful, inherited Devil Fruit, the reality is much more complicated and disturbing than anyone knows. Only a handful of people understand what actually happened at Aurust Castle, including Loki, who has been branded as a villain by his own people.
The story details Harald’s life over many months, showing his transformation from a wild young man into Elbaph’s most cherished king. It also introduces Rocks D. Xebec, a famous pirate who perished 38 years prior in the God Valley Incident. After Xebec’s death, Harald’s life began to fall apart as he increasingly sought approval from the World Government. He dedicated himself to serving them, hoping his efforts would be enough to protect his people. Unfortunately, things worsened when the world’s hidden leader manipulated Harald, turning him into a tool to destroy Elbaph.
One Piece Chapter 1170 Reveals Loki’s True Powers

As we learned in the last chapter, Harald asked Loki to end his life. But after Imu gave him immortality, Imu took control of Harald and sent him back to his castle. Unable to control himself, Harald tragically killed numerous Giant soldiers, and no one could intervene. He was Elbaph’s most powerful king – his battle with Xebec was so devastating it affected everything for kilometers around.
Harald believed only his son, Loki, could defeat him. He asked Loki to eat a powerful, legendary fruit and end his life before Harald lost his sanity. This fruit had been a treasured secret in Elbaph for centuries, waiting for someone worthy. A magical warhammer named Ragnir guarded the fruit, preventing anyone unworthy from claiming its power.
Even though Gaban and Shanks were present, they couldn’t interfere with the fight because Harald was too strong, particularly after receiving power from Imu. The chapter revealed that Loki is now wielding a hammer that can even transform into a squirrel, as it specifically chose him as its user. We still don’t know the Devil Fruit’s name or full capabilities, but it gave Loki the power to defeat Harald with a single, incredibly powerful attack – something even Xebec wasn’t able to do.
Loki Already Knows The Trick to Defeating The Holy Knights

The day at Aurust Castle was a turning point for Loki, as he unlocked Conqueror’s Haki, a remarkably powerful ability. Empowered with Haki, he was able to defeat his father with a single blow using his weapon, Ragnir. His father, Harald, already possessed a form of immortality common among the highest-ranking Holy Knights, but this power wasn’t absolute – it had a weakness. As shown earlier in the story by Gaban, it was possible to overcome this immortality and incapacitate the Holy Knights.
Loki’s victory over Harald relied on his Conqueror’s Haki, and that same ability is key to his current advantage. Though the exact details aren’t fully revealed, this power works on all Holy Knights without fail. Given how easily Loki defeated Harald, the Knights are clearly outmatched. They’re currently trying to avoid a full-scale war with the Giants by holding children hostage and forcing their surrender.
With Harald’s death, the story is nearing its end – we just need to see the consequences of what happened. Harald had planned to be remembered as a cruel ruler who took the fall for everything, casting Loki as the national savior. However, things didn’t go as planned. Loki was blamed not only for Harald’s death but also for the involvement of the Giant soldiers. Once Loki reveals the truth, he’ll join the battle against the Holy Knights, and it seems likely he’ll win, unless the villains try some underhanded tactics.
