A new anime spinoff focusing on the female characters of One Piece has been announced, and it’s given fans a first look at updated designs for Nami and Robin. 2026 is shaping up to be a big year for One Piece, with the return of the live-action Netflix series and a new anime release schedule. Plus, this new spinoff anime is another exciting addition for fans of the series.
A new anime project called One Piece: Heroines is coming soon! It’s based on a light novel that tells smaller, focused stories about beloved female characters from throughout the One Piece series. The anime will have its own unique visual style, and we’ve already gotten a sneak peek at redesigned looks for Nami and Robin. You can see the new designs below!
What Is One Piece: Heroines?

The upcoming anime, One Piece: Heroines, is based on a novel by Jun Esaka with illustrations by Sayaka Suwa. It will feature stories focusing on Nami, Nico Robin, Nefertari Vivi, and Perona—characters and events not shown in the original One Piece manga by Eiichiro Oda. Haruka Kamatami will direct the anime for Toei Animation, with Takashi Kojima designing the characters and Momoka Toyoda writing the scripts. Currently, there’s no information available about when the anime will be released.
The exact format of this new One Piece anime spinoff is still unknown. Since it’s based on just one novel, it could be a short series, a collection of OVAs, or even a special anime episode, similar to last year’s One Piece Fan Letter. Whatever it turns out to be, it promises a fresh perspective on the world of One Piece, and similar projects have proven successful in the past, so fans are hopeful this one will be too.
What’s Next for the One Piece Anime?
I’ve been following One Piece for a while now, and it looks like things are about to change quite a bit. Toei Animation recently announced that after the Egghead Arc wraps up this year, the anime will take a three-month break. When it comes back in April 2026, starting with the Elbaph Arc, One Piece will be switching to a seasonal release. Instead of new episodes every week, they’re planning to release two sets of episodes, or ‘cours,’ each year. It’s a big shift, but hopefully it allows for higher quality animation in the long run.
The team behind the One Piece anime has announced a shift in their release schedule. From now on, they’ll be producing 26 episodes each year. Although this is fewer episodes than in previous seasons, the anime will actually cover more of the story. They plan to adapt roughly one chapter of the manga per episode and include content they previously had to leave out. This change is expected to be a positive development for the future of the anime.
