Regardless of some bumps along the way, the anime adaptation of “One Piece” has been nothing less than awe-inspiring over recent arcs, with the series seemingly outdoing itself in the Egghead Arc. While viewers generally praise the significant upgrade in animation quality, “One Piece’s” anime still lags behind in one notorious aspect – its pace. The latest episode hints at a possible resurrection of an aggravating pattern.
The long-running series “One Piece,” which is celebrated and widely enjoyed, can be quite daunting for newcomers due to its extensive collection of over a thousand chapters and episodes. Adding to this challenge, the show has often been criticized for its slow pace by fans since its initial airing. However, it appeared that “One Piece” had finally improved its pacing during the Egghead Arc, with many attributing this change to the series’ creator, Eiichiro Oda, stepping up the tempo as the story approaches its Final Saga. Regrettably, Episode 1138 suggests that the anime may be reverting to its previously frustrating habits.
One Piece’s Anime Ruined the Finale to Its Best Flashback Yet

After the thrilling, emotional journey that was Episode 1137 left me on the edge of my seat, I eagerly anticipated the latest installment of One Piece. However, instead of the action-packed adventure I expected, I found myself watching a compilation of Kuma’s backstory and scenes that had been shown multiple times before. Episode 1138 barely scratched the surface of its source manga chapter and felt more like a rehash than a fresh take on one of the most impactful flashbacks in all of One Piece.
Generally speaking, even though only a small portion of each episode consists of filler content, these episodes can still feel tedious for fans eagerly following the anime weekly or those rushing to catch up with the series. However, it’s hoped that this won’t be an ongoing issue since the upcoming Egghead Arc in One Piece promises a wealth of thrilling developments. Particularly noteworthy are the Buster Call on the island and Luffy’s mysterious preparation to reintroduce Gear Five in its full splendor.
One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
