2025 continued to be another fantastic year for One Piece, the incredibly popular manga series. This year felt particularly special because the story finally began the long-awaited Elbaph arc – something fans had been anticipating for over twenty years! The arc was packed with exciting reveals, like the confirmation that Shanks has a twin brother, and explored the unfolding events in Elbaph, including a grim prophecy from the Gods’ Knights concerning the giants. A massive flashback, which finally showed the God Valley incident – another highly requested story element – made nearly every chapter of the manga this year truly exceptional.
Choosing the best One Piece chapter of the year is tough, with so many great options! However, Shueisha’s Manga Plus, which highlights popular manga moments, has helped narrow it down. In their annual review of the most-read chapters, One Piece Chapter 1161 ranked third for 2025. This makes it a standout chapter of the year, and it appears that fans particularly loved the romantic elements within it.
One Piece’s Best Chapter of 2025 Was Surprisingly Romantic

Chapter 1161 of One Piece, titled “A Song of Love Bound Under a Hail of Sorrows,” is the most popular chapter on the Manga Plus platform, and it’s notable for its unexpected romantic storyline. A major reveal in the chapter explains that the God Valley Incident was actually caused by Shakky, who the World Government labeled as one of its “treasures.” This attracted pirates to the island hoping to capture her, as she was renowned for her beauty and considered a valuable prize. The chapter reaches a high point with a scene of Silvers Rayleigh rescuing Shakky.
This chapter unfolds Shakky’s rescue in a traditional, storybook fashion, with the hero venturing into the villain’s lair to save the one he loves. The action ramps up the suspense, and the Roger Pirates – even Roger himself – assist Rayleigh in reaching Shakky. The chapter ends like a classic romance, with Rayleigh arriving just as Sommers is about to harm her. This highlights that while One Piece doesn’t often focus on romance, it excels when it does, possibly because these realistic moments resonate with fans amidst the series’ fantastical adventures.
