After more than 26 years of releasing new episodes weekly, the One Piece anime is changing its schedule right before the climax of the Egghead Incident Arc. Starting with the Elbaf Arc, the anime will release episodes in two parts throughout the year, with 26 episodes split into these segments. Following the conclusion of the Egghead Incident Arc, the anime will take a break in January 2026 and return with new adventures in April 2026. This announcement surprised fans, who had mixed reactions, especially those accustomed to the weekly release format. Despite the change, One Piece will still adapt roughly one chapter of the manga per episode, meaning viewers can likely expect the same level of filler content and pacing as usual.
The delay is likely due to giving the animators more time to keep the animation quality high, especially after the impressive work on the Wano Country Saga and the start of the Final Saga. Currently, tight deadlines sometimes lead to uneven quality, with some exciting episodes receiving more attention than others. The adaptation of Sanji, a key character, has often been a point of discussion among fans, but this new schedule could actually be good news for those who enjoy his storyline.
One Piece’s Anime Can Now Prioritize Sanji’s Episodes As Well

While the animation studio usually does a good job, this character’s depiction doesn’t quite measure up to those of Luffy and Zoro. Many observant fans have noticed this and often criticize the pacing, which makes him appear slower than he should, despite being the fastest member of the Straw Hat crew. Adding to the disappointment, Episode 1147 – released shortly after a new production schedule was announced – received criticism for a simplified adaptation of one of his most important moments, especially compared to other episodes in the Egghead Incident Arc.
As a huge fan, I’ve noticed some inconsistencies in the animation lately. For example, that scene with Atlas hitting the Marine officer felt way more dynamic than Sanji’s fight with Nusjuro, even within the same episode! But the recent schedule shift gives me hope – it seems like the studio will finally have the breathing room to really polish things up. If Toei can deliver more consistent animation quality across the board, I genuinely believe Sanji’s upcoming battles will be just as epic as Luffy’s and Zoro’s! From what we know, the Egghead Arc isn’t getting any changes, but everyone’s already buzzing with excitement for what’s coming in the Elbaf Arc!
