One Piece’s Official Translation Removes a Crucial Clue About Harald’s Future

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! For months, the long-awaited Elbaf Arc in One Piece has been revealing the story of Harald, the most powerful and well-loved king in Elbaf’s history. He was tragically killed inside his castle 14 years ago. Though the Giants thought his son, Loki, was the murderer, the truth proved to be much more complex. The manga briefly showed the events of Harald’s death before delving into his past. However, the flashback, initially focused on the beloved king, quickly shifted its attention to Rocks D. Xebec after his introduction.

The manga recently showed Xebec’s face for the first time and finally explained the events of the God Valley Incident, a major event from 38 years ago that drastically changed the world’s power structure. While the World Government portrayed him as a villain, the story reveals Xebec wasn’t the one who started the chaos. With the truth about the incident now revealed, the story is shifting its focus back to Harald’s history, though a key clue about what happened to him was left out of the official English translation.

One Piece’s Official Translation Doesn’t Include the Editor’s Note

Each week in Japan, Weekly Shonen Jump magazine publishes the latest chapters of popular manga series. The magazine also features comments from the editors, often teasing future storylines or building excitement for the series. While fans worldwide can read the manga on official platforms like Viz and Manga Plus, these translations don’t include the editor’s notes, which sometimes contain important hints about what’s to come.

Following the release of chapter 1166, an editor’s note asked, “Is there any hope for this path?” Because this note wasn’t initially available on international platforms, a Japanese fan translator named @sandman_AP shared an English translation on X. The note reflects on the desperate decisions Harald made and the consequences he faced, losing everything as a result. After the death of Xebec, Harald became even more desperate and is now focused on proving his loyalty to the World Government, hoping to secure positive relations for his country.

I’m absolutely fascinated by this character! It’s heartbreaking to learn he acted with such good intentions, sacrificing his own pride to help the World Government, only to end up facing tragedy. The story is really gearing up to reveal the full extent of his downfall – how his choices ultimately destroyed his life and the legacy of the king of Elbaf. And get this – we’re still going to explore his past for a while! There are 24 years of his life we haven’t seen yet, and apparently some huge things happened during that time. I can’t wait to find out what they are!
