With the official announcement of the third installment back in August 2022, anticipation among enthusiasts has grown significantly, as they are excited for this new chapter and believe the wait will be worth it, particularly since the series is about to tackle one of its most thrilling storylines.

To put it simply, Season 3 of One-Punch Man has been no stranger to controversies. The most recent issue arose from the change in the anime’s director, Shinpei Nagai, which sparked such a strong negative reaction that he felt compelled to speak on the matter. Just days later, it appears that One-Punch Man’s anime might be heading towards another controversy as its director has hinted that Season 3 may not meet fans’ high expectations compared to Season 1.

In a recent article on X, Shinpei Nagai shared his thoughts about whether Season 3 of “One-Punch Man” could match the greatness of Season 1, as fans have anticipated. Unfortunately, Nagai’s comments didn’t instill much confidence, with the entire piece suggesting that the upcoming season might not meet expectations.

I’m ready and well-aware of the responsibility that comes with handling a project dear to everyone here. It might not meet your expectations or even cause some displeasure. However, someone needs to take on this role, and I am ready and optimistic for the challenge. While it may not match the quality of Season 1, it reflects the dedication and creativity of the creators. I ask for your understanding and acceptance in this regard.

In today’s industry, many talented individuals are being drawn to companies backed by large corporations. Yet, as I’ve often mentioned, my goal is to support J.C. Staff, a studio that focuses on improving working conditions and fostering employee growth.

Considering the immense affection for Season 1 of One-Punch Man , it’s natural for fans to hope that the upcoming Season maintains the same quality, especially given the long wait. However, as Nagai points out, all we can do right now is trust that studio J.C. Staff is putting their best effort into the production with the resources available, and similarly, the new director seems committed to making the anime exceptional. It’s premature and unfair to evaluate Season 3 at this stage, but even if it falls short of Season 1, the enthusiasm poured into the new season might compensate for any weaknesses or deficiencies, making it enjoyable for fans nonetheless.
