One-Punch Man Season 3 Director Responds to Fan Backlash
Hello everyone, I am Shimpei Nagai, the director of ‘One Punch Man’ Season 3. I understand your concerns and reactions. Please take a moment to listen to me. Rest assured, my freelance status has remained unchanged.”
Nagai then went on to share more details about their background in the industry.
In his late 30s, the director completed his apprenticeship and ventured into the anime industry with a debut project titled ‘Hiiro no Kakera.’ He subsequently learned to blend 3D animation with traditional techniques in a project called ‘Aquarion Logos.’ For a brief period of a year, he worked at a 3D company, contributing to visual boards for shows like ‘Altered Carbon.’
Throughout his career, Nagai had always aspired to work for Manglobe. He honed his skills on episodes 6 of ‘GANGSTA.’ and other projects such as ‘Samurai Flamenco.’ His objective was to create a unique blend of 3D computer graphics (3DCG) and hand-drawn animation, but unfortunately, Manglobe shut down.
The director then went on to collaborate with J.C. Staff, the team behind Seasons 2 and 3 of ‘One-Punch Man.’
One-Punch Man Director Explains Silence So Far
During this time, J.C. Staff agreed to be my long-term collaborator, hiring me for storyboarding and direction tasks throughout the year,” Nagai stated further. “Given my limited recognition and lack of prominent accomplishments as an animator, I felt it might create a negative impression, so I requested that our partnership remain confidential.” As the new season approached, Nagai disclosed that he wished to stealthily transition to a new method of workflow, one designed to maximize production time.
During discussions about the upcoming season 3 of One Punch Man, Nagai emphasized implementing a novel workflow approach, as previously mentioned in CGWORLD, combining 3D and 2D techniques, aiming to save an additional second in production time. Nagai expressed his regret for not sharing this earlier, but assured that the team is putting maximum effort into the project. Due to confidentiality reasons, he couldn’t disclose specifics about the production process, but promised to answer questions within appropriate boundaries.
Excitedly, One-Punch Man Season 3 has confirmed an air date of October 5th. So, the wait for fans won’t last too long as they eagerly anticipate unfolding events!
