Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Teased by Capcom

Capcom has hinted that they’ll soon announce the release date for their upcoming action game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. While the game is currently planned for a 2026 launch, Capcom hasn’t given a specific date, leading some fans to worry about potential delays. However, Capcom has reassured players that the release date will be revealed in the near future.

Satoru Nihei, director of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, recently hinted on social media that the next big update for the game will likely include its release date. Although he didn’t say it directly, Nihei shared that development is almost finished and encouraged fans to get ready for the upcoming announcement, which he suggests will be about when the game launches.

Nihei expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic response to last week’s Capcom Spotlight. He shared that the team is excited to see everyone’s eagerness for the game’s release date and confirmed they are currently in the final stages of development. They promised to share more information soon!

When Will Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release?

Looking at Capcom’s game plans for 2026, the earliest we can expect Onimusha: Way of the Sword is this summer. Capcom’s next big game, Pragmata, is coming in April, and currently, Way of the Sword is the only other title scheduled for release this year. This gives Capcom plenty of flexibility to launch it without it clashing with any other of their games.

Considering this, Capcom might release the new Onimusha game in fall 2026. If so, it would compete with other highly anticipated action games like Marvel’s Wolverine and Phantom Blade Zero, both also planned for release around the same time. It’s unclear if Capcom wants to directly challenge these titles, but Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC whenever it launches.
