I’ve always been impressed by actors who dive into the world of comic book adaptations, and there are so many who’ve played multiple roles! Josh Brolin, for example, was a fantastic Thanos and Cable, and Michael B. Jordan really brought both the Human Torch and Killmonger to life. Even Halle Berry has iconic roles as Storm and Catwoman. But David Dastmalchian? He’s on another level! I recently learned he’s played *ten* different characters across both Marvel and DC projects – in live-action *and* animation! And he’s hoping to add an eleventh to that impressive list, which is just amazing to me.
Dastmalchian has expressed interest in playing Morbius. While the previous Morbius film with Jared Leto wasn’t a huge success for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, many think Dastmalchian would be a great fit for the role.
What Comic Book Characters Has Dastmalchian Played & Why Does He Want Morbius to Be Next?

Few film debuts are as impactful as Dastmalchian’s in *The Dark Knight*. He memorably played a quirky, unstable henchman of the Joker, even sporting a nametag that read “Rachel Dawes.” Seven years later, he transitioned from DC to Marvel with his role as Kurt in *Ant-Man*, marking his return to the superhero genre.
In 2017, he returned to filming in Washington D.C. as Dwight Pollard on *Gotham*. He stayed busy over the next few years, reprising his role as Kurt in *Ant-Man and the Wasp* and appearing twice as Abra Kadabra on *The Flash*. He also lent his voice to *Batman: The Long Halloween*, voicing both Calendar Man and Penguin, and voiced Kurt in an episode of *What If…?*. Finally, he played Polka-Dot Man in James Gunn’s *The Suicide Squad*.
He recently lent his voice to several projects, including Veb in *Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania*, Grendon in *Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham*, and The Flash in *Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen* (all released in 2023). He also played Vic Sage, also known as The Question, in the VR game *Batman: Arkham Shadow*, though we didn’t include that role in our overall count of his superhero appearances.
Speaking with The Direct, actor Dastmalchian discussed the possibility of reprising his roles as Veb and Kurt in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. He also revealed his dream MCU role: Morbius. Dastmalchian expressed a strong desire to play Dr. Michael Morbius, the living vampire, noting his love for the MCU’s horror and more unusual characters.
Dastmalchian expressed his enthusiasm for exploring horror and unusual characters, particularly the possibility of a Marvel take on Dracula. Known for his ability to create chilling performances without dialogue – as demonstrated in films like *The Dark Knight* and *Prisoners* – he excels at using facial expressions to evoke fear. This talent would make him a fantastic choice to play a vampire in a superhero movie, whether as Morbius or Dracula.
Just because the *Morbius* movie wasn’t successful doesn’t mean the character is unworkable. Michael Dastmalchian, with a strong script and without silly moments, could definitely pull it off. Will we see “the living vampire” get another chance on screen? It seems Dastmalchian is ready and waiting if the opportunity arises.
