It’s only been a month into 2026, but Netflix has already canceled three popular TV shows, and this is becoming a common problem with streaming services. While TV shows being canceled isn’t new, it’s especially frustrating now. Often, it’s unclear why shows are renewed or canceled – decisions seem to be based on initial viewership numbers, like how many hours people stream in the first few weeks. This doesn’t give new shows enough time to build an audience, and it leaves viewers disappointed when a show they like gets canceled quickly.
Netflix has gained a reputation for canceling shows quickly, often after only one or two seasons. While other streaming services do this as well, it’s become a major frustration for viewers. Data from Watch in America shows Netflix canceled more series than any other platform in 2024, with a total of 16. They continued this trend in 2025, axing 30 more shows – including The Waterfront, which was briefly a Top 10 hit – and have already canceled three series in 2026.
Netflix Has Canceled 3 Shows in 2026, Including Alice in Borderland

Traditional TV seasons are becoming less common with the rise of streaming, meaning shows can be canceled at any time. Netflix has already canceled three series this year, which is disappointing, particularly because two of those shows had already built up a loyal audience over multiple seasons. Here are the Netflix shows that have been canceled:
- The Abandons
- The Vince Staples Show
- Alice in Borderland
I was really excited about The Abandons – it was so new, only dropping its first season last December. Coming from the creator of Sons of Anarchy and starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, it felt like it could have been the next Yellowstone. It’s such a shame Netflix cancelled it, because it won’t get the chance now. From what I understand, it was a tough combination of not enough people watching and the show being really expensive to make – that’s unfortunately happened with other Netflix shows before.
It appears Netflix canceled The Vince Staples Show due to low viewership, although the company hasn’t publicly stated why. Their internal data showed Season 2 was watched by only 1.7 million people, significantly fewer than the 4.6 million who watched Season 1. While fans have voiced their disappointment online, it doesn’t seem likely to reverse Netflix’s decision.
Netflix has quietly canceled its popular show Alice in Borderland after three seasons, with the latest season premiering in September. While the show still had a lot of viewers, the third season received some negative feedback, so the cancellation wasn’t entirely unexpected. However, it was surprising that Netflix simply labeled it as the “final season” in their viewership report, rather than announcing a cancellation.
Netflix’s Newly Canceled TV Shows Don’t Bode Well for Addressing 1 Subscriber Complaint

Recent cancellations from Netflix and other streaming services suggest the problem of shows being cut short isn’t getting better. These frequent cancellations actually make the situation worse, because viewers become hesitant to invest time in new series if they fear those shows might not last. This creates a cycle where shows struggle to find an audience, leading to even more cancellations. Ultimately, Netflix and similar companies need to regain the trust of their subscribers, or we can expect these cancellations to keep happening.
