The list of the ten best-selling PlayStation 5 games on the PlayStation Store for 2025 is out, and surprisingly, only one game is exclusive to the PS5. This might suggest that exclusive games aren’t as crucial to console sales as they once were. Interestingly, even that exclusive isn’t considered the top-rated PS5 exclusive of the year.
Not surprisingly, the top 10 best-selling PS5 games on the PlayStation Store last year included many of the usual popular titles – at least in North America. However, the Japanese PlayStation Store chart showed a wider variety of games, as it often does.
North America vs Japan
In North America, NBA 2K26 was the best-selling PlayStation 5 game of 2025 – a first for the series. The top five also included Battlefield 6, GTA 5, EA Sports College Football 26, and EA Sports Madden NFL 26. Following those, Minecraft, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and Arc Raiders took the sixth, seventh, and eighth spots. The first PlayStation 5 exclusive to appear in the top ten was Ghost of Yotei, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima from 2020, at number nine. MLB The Show 25 rounded out the top ten.
Here’s the current top 10 chart in Japan: Monster Hunter Wilds, Elden Ring Nightreign, Ghost of Yotei, Arc Raiders, Minecraft, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Battlefield 6, Dragon Quest I + II HD-2D Remake, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
Lack of Death Stranding 2
Despite a strong showing in Japan, Death Stranding 2 didn’t make the top 10 in North America, which is surprising considering its critical acclaim as one of the year’s best and highest-rated PlayStation 5 exclusives. However, Death Stranding is a smaller, more specialized series compared to games like Ghost of Yotei, a typical open-world action title. In fact, the original Death Stranding sold fewer copies than Ghost of Tsushima. It’s currently unclear if Sony is satisfied with how well Ghost of Yotei is performing.
