Open-world survival crafting game Westlanders announced for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC

Radical Theory and The Breach Studios are creating Westlanders, a Western-style game where you survive, build, craft, and manage resources. It’s planned for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC after a Kickstarter campaign in early 2026, with a PC Early Access version coming beforehand – though the exact date for Early Access hasn’t been revealed yet.

According to Ferran Punti, CEO of The Breach Studios, their goal is to build a game that grows and improves with input from its players. They plan to use Kickstarter and Early Access to collaborate closely with dedicated and enthusiastic gamers, carefully considering their feedback to refine the game before its release on consoles. Punti also explained that partnering with Radical Theory felt like a good fit because of their experience, knowledge, and commitment to open communication and support for game developers.

Radical Theory CEO Luc Heninger expressed his excitement about partnering with The Breach Studios, praising their team as both skilled and approachable. He explained that Westlanders immediately impressed them with its unique Western setting within the survival-crafting genre, which isn’t often seen. Heninger highlighted the game’s open-ended, sandbox-style gameplay, offering players of all types deep and engaging mechanics. Ultimately, the goal is to create a fun, cooperative experience where players can quickly enjoy building, combat, and managing resources with friends.

After everything we went through, all the dangers we faced, outlaws descended on us like a nightmare. They left nothing but destruction in their wake. I was the only one who made it.

A Solo and Cooperative Survival Journey in a Far West Setting

Picture a vast and immersive Wild West setting, similar to the movie The Revenant, where you create your own unique adventure. This game combines that atmosphere with the building and crafting elements of Medieval Dynasty, the challenging survival aspects of ARK: Survival Evolved, and the open-ended freedom to explore and build found in Palworld.

I’m so excited about Westlanders! The team really wanted to do something new with the survival genre, and they’ve done it by setting the game in a fantastical Wild West. You can play alone or team up with friends – up to four of you – and try to build a life in this really cool, but dangerous, world. It’s all about exploring, fighting, gathering stuff, crafting tools, leveling up your skills, and building settlements to help the Valley thrive. It feels like a classic Western, but with a magical twist!

Explore the Lands on Your Mobile Base: The Wagon

You’ll be fixing up your wagon and hitting the road almost immediately when you start playing. What makes our game unique is the idea of a horse-drawn base that travels with you. We wanted to avoid the usual frustrations of survival games, where you have limited space and can’t build a proper base until later. In Westlanders, you’ll start exploring the Wild West right away from the comfort of your own customized wagon. It’s more than just a way to get around – it’s your home, workshop, and the center of your progress. Explore a huge, wild world without restrictions, and upgrade your mobile camp with new tools and improvements to survive and thrive in the wilderness.

Build Outposts, Recruit Citizens, Create a Full Economy

Your adventure is defined not only by what you find, but by the decisions you make. Carefully choose the ideal spot for your base camp – a place where you can thrive off the land while respecting the environment.

Start with a small camp and build it into a bustling town, expanding your influence across the land. Create strong trade routes between your settlements to help them flourish. You’ll also meet other people traveling the wilds – convince them to join you! Find skilled workers, like builders and guards, to help you create a thriving community in the wilderness.

    Each worker will come with its own sets of perks and flaws that will make them unique and more suitable for different roles. As they work hard, they proficiency with the different jobs improve, increasing your resource production and their salary demands!
  • Forge a Vast Network – Connect your burgeoning outposts and settlements across the entire valley with roads and establish logistic networks, creating a powerful trade empire that ensures your people thrives. The road system allows you to create routes between your different bases. Hire workers to patrol the routes and haul resources from one base to another and see the valley evolve as you expand.
  • Overcome All Dangers – Stand against relentless bandits, ferocious wild animals, and the myriad of lurking threats that seek to challenge your grasp on the Westlands. As you explore the world, the Events system will change the status quo in the territory. A raid of bandits or a pack of wild wolves may wreak chaos on one of your outposts, which will have its production halted until you fight back the invader.

Our goal is to create games we’d genuinely enjoy playing ourselves – titles that are memorable and best experienced with friends. We believe games should be immersive, exciting, and full of discovery, and that’s at the heart of everything we do. That’s the spirit behind Westlanders. We’re big fans of survival, exploration, crafting, and management games like ARK, Valheim, Palworld, and Factorio, and we’ve always loved Westerns. Having played a lot of the Red Dead Redemption series, we wondered what would happen if we combined the gameplay of ARK with that Western atmosphere – and that’s how Westlanders came to be.
