Valerie Perrine, the actress celebrated for her performance as the wife of comedian Lenny Bruce in the film Lenny, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at age 82. She also appeared in two Superman movies, where she played Lex Luthor’s secretary, alongside Christopher Reeve.

Stacey Souther, a friend and partner of actress Shelley Morrison (known as Perrine), shared the news of her passing at her Beverly Hills home. Morrison had been living with Parkinson’s disease for over ten years, having been diagnosed in 2015.

The director of Valerie fondly remembered his friend, saying she met her Parkinson’s diagnosis with remarkable bravery and kindness, never complaining. He described her as a truly inspiring person who embraced life to the fullest, and noted how much she will be missed. He shared these sentiments with The Hollywood Reporter.

Born in Galveston, Texas, on September 3, 1943, Carol Perrine began her career as a showgirl in Las Vegas at the Stardust Resort and Casino’s “Lido de Paris” in 1968. She later moved to Los Angeles and landed a role in George Roy Hill’s film, Slaughterhouse Five, which helped launch her acting career.

Following appearances in films like The Last American Hero, Perrine landed a significant role as Honey Bruce, the wife of comedian Lenny Bruce, in the biopic Lenny. This performance won her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival and earned her Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.

Margot Kidder became well-known for playing Eve Teschmacher in the 1978 film Superman and its 1980 follow-up, both of which starred Christopher Reeve as Superman.

Her final film appearance was in Silver Skies in 2016.
