
Walking away with a statue or not, these nominees for the 2026 Oscars are already setting records.
The Academy Awards, a landmark event for the film industry, has once again revealed a list of impressive nominees. This year’s nominations – announced on January 21st by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman – highlight outstanding achievements in all 24 categories, with the film Sinners receiving the most nominations this season.
The critically acclaimed film directed by Ryan Coogler received an impressive 16 Academy Award nominations, making it the most nominated movie ever. Previously, films like the 1950 classic All About Eve, the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, and the 2016 musical La La Land shared the record with 14 nominations each.
Continuing the story within the world of Sinners, Delroy Lindo received his first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Delta Slim. Additionally, Ruth E. Carter, the film’s costume designer, earned another nomination, making her the Black woman with the most Oscar nominations ever.
Timothée Chalamet is also making history at this year’s ceremony. His performance as table tennis player Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme earned him a nomination for Best Actor, marking his third time as a nominee in that category. This achievement makes him the youngest male actor since Marlon Brando to receive three acting nominations.

Director Chloé Zhao made history with her moving film Hamnet, becoming only the second woman to receive more than one Best Director nomination.
The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will broadcast live on ABC on March 15th.

Despite a strong effort from Miley’s campaign for Best Original Song, “Dream As One” from Avatar wasn’t nominated.

The actress from ‘The Sentimental Value’ received a nomination for her role as Agnes, which was both earned and unexpected.

The first Wicked film received many nominations last year, but the sequel didn’t receive any major nominations, not even for Best Picture.

Although One Battle After Another received nominations in several other Oscar categories, Chase wasn’t nominated for her performance as the lead actress.

I was so sure Jennifer would get an Oscar nomination for her incredible work in Die, My Love! Everyone was talking about her performance all awards season, but it’s just heartbreaking that she didn’t get the recognition she deserved. It really felt like a snub.

Despite being overlooked by the Golden Globes and other actor awards, Delroy finally received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Delta Slim – a well-deserved recognition and a first for him.

The actress from Marty Supreme received an award nomination from the Actor Awards, but wasn’t nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category, despite her performance.

Amanda’s performance in The Testament of Anne Lee was considered strong enough to earn her a Best Actress nomination, but she wasn’t ultimately selected.

The competition for Best Actress was very strong this year, making Kate’s nomination for her work in Song Sung Blue a delightful surprise.
