Key Highlights
- OSL Group has partnered with Circle Internet Group to expand access to USDC.
- OSL Global offers a 1:1 USD-USDC exchange and a dedicated trading zone for USDC pairs of the most popular cryptocurrencies.
- USDC will be used as a unified margin asset and integrated into OSL’s payments ecosystem.
OSL Group is working with a part of Circle Internet Group to make the USDC stablecoin more widely available on its platforms for trading and payments, as more companies look for ways to use digital versions of the US dollar.
OSL has announced it will add the USDC stablecoin to its global trading and payment system. This move reflects increasing demand for stablecoins, especially in places like Hong Kong.
Through this new partnership, OSL’s trading platform, OSL Global, will let users easily exchange US dollars for USDC, with each dollar converted directly to one USDC. The platform will also create a special area for trading USDC, allowing users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana using USDC, USD, and USDT.
Expanded integration
This integration expands beyond simple buying and selling. OSL now lets eligible users use USDC as collateral for multiple trades, simplifying margin requirements on the platform.
The company now accepts USDC as a payment method, allowing customers to use digital dollars. Because stablecoins like USDC offer consistent pricing and fast processing, they’re becoming increasingly popular for international payments.
The partnership also provides access to Circle’s USYC, a digital version of a money market fund, through OSL Global, pending necessary regulatory approvals. These kinds of digital funds are becoming increasingly popular as financial companies investigate using blockchain technology for traditional investments.
Infrastructure for digital finance
Leaders from both companies explained that the partnership is a key step in building the foundation for the future of digital finance.
According to Eugene Cheung, OSL’s Chief Commercial Officer, the new USDC wallet feature supports the company’s goal of building a unified financial system that easily connects traditional money, stablecoins like USDC, and other digital currencies.
Kash Razzaghi, Circle’s head of business development, also noted a growing interest from institutions in systems that allow money to be sent easily around the world.
Native bridging solution
Circle has launched a new feature that lets users easily transfer its USD Coin (USDC) between different blockchains. This works by destroying (burning) the USDC on one blockchain and then creating (minting) an equivalent amount on another.
This process involves destroying the original coins and creating new ones directly on the destination blockchain, avoiding the need for external exchanges or ‘wrapped’ versions of the coins, which can sometimes pose security risks.
The company says its technology verifies a transaction before creating USDC on the destination network, and then automatically handles everything else – like finding the best route and paying for gas fees.
Increasing stablecoin demand
This development reflects a growing pattern in the digital asset world: stablecoins are becoming a crucial part of how people trade, borrow, and make payments.
USDC is still a leading stablecoin backed by US dollars. Its reliability and speed in processing transactions make it popular with financial institutions, even as regulators continue to examine the stablecoin industry.
As a crypto investor, I’ve been watching OSL (listed as 863.HK in Hong Kong) closely. It looks like they’re not content just being a trading platform anymore – they’re building out a much wider range of services for digital assets, which is a smart move in my opinion.
