The Gwenith Glide is the last of the Barracuda Trials, and you’ll unlock it by leveling up your Sailing skill in Old School RuneScape (OSRS).
Although this challenge looks easier than the last ones, it’s actually much more demanding when you’re doing it. You’ll need to plan your course carefully and steer your boat with precision throughout!
In this guide, we’ll help you clear every rank of this trial.
The Gwenith Glide Guide – Swordfish, Shark, Marlin | OSRS

As you may recall, The Gwenith Glide is the final challenge in the Barracuda Trials. It becomes available at Sailing Level 72 once you’ve finished the “Regicide” quest. You can begin this trial close to Port Gwenith.
This challenge is fairly straightforward compared to other Barracuda Trials. It doesn’t have many tricks, aside from sets of colored portals you can travel through.

Each colored portal connects to another portal of the same color. Using these connections effectively will be important for navigating around!
You’ll also have to navigate tight passages filled with ice and glowing crystals. These crystals are dangerous – touching them will hurt you and slow your progress, so be careful to avoid them if you want to achieve the best times.
Generally, this trial focuses on how well you can steer the ship. We’ll provide assistance with navigation, so your main challenge will be controlling the vessel itself!
Before we discuss advanced routing strategies, let’s quickly cover the time needed to achieve each rank and the benefits you’ll receive.
- Unraked – No Time, 3100 XP per lap.
- Swordfish – 2:00 Target Time. 4100 XP per lap. 25000 Bonus XP and Serrated Key on completion.
- Shark – 3:42 Target Time. 9315 XP per lap. 35000 Bonus XP and Heart of Ithell on completion.
- Marlin – 6:09 Target Time. 18160 XP per lap. 50000 Bonux XP and Gwynar’s Fabric Roll on completion.
With all of that said, it’s now time to go over the routing for this trial!
Routing for Each Rank

To make navigating easier, we suggest using the RuneLite client. Its Ground Markers (also known as Tile Markers) are a really helpful feature.
As we explained in our Barracuda Trials guide, this feature lets you pinpoint the locations of missing supply crates. This makes them easier to find and helps you plan your path more effectively.

Considering that, we suggest using Tile Markers created by the Old School RuneScape community. You can find these on the official OSRS wiki. Simply search for the markers corresponding to the rank you’re aiming for and click the “Copy tile markers” button.

Next, right-click on the minimap while you’re playing and choose “Import Ground Markers.” This will show you the locations of all the missing supply crates and highlight the path to them with colored tiles!

Simply follow the path marked by the color you were assigned when you entered a portal. Don’t change to a different color when paths cross – only switch colors when you come out of a portal.
Focus on collecting crates that are directly along your current path. Don’t go off course to get crates from other colored routes – you’ll have a chance to collect those later.
Also, be sure to collect all the Wind Motes you find on your path. Use them whenever you need a speed boost!
These markers make the trial much easier – it’s now simply about navigating carefully and avoiding obstacles. It really takes the pressure off!
Marlin Rank Specifics

The guidelines for the Marlin Rank test remain the same as before. Please use the Tile Markers to help with routing, and also check the routing image above for additional assistance.
For this level, we highly recommend fully customizing your ship. Upgrading your hull, mast, and sails as much as possible is crucial to achieving the required time.
It’s also probably best not to try and avoid the Resonance Crystals. These are the white, icy spikes you’ll see on the path.
Usually, the quickest way to get across is to use a Wind Mote, even if it means taking some damage. Just be sure you have a way to heal yourself, because the damage can be deadly!
Now that you have these tools and routes, you should be well-equipped to complete every rank of The Gwenith Glade trial in Old School RuneScape! All that remains is practice to help you master it.
