Outlander exec argues Blood of My Blood is “not looking to replicate Jamie and Claire”

In just one day, Outlander: Blood of My Blood will make its grand debut! While we’re certainly looking forward to breathtaking landscapes of the Scottish highlands, heartwarming romantic tales, and time-travel adventures, it’s important to note that this spin-off series might differ from Outlander more than fans might anticipate.

The new series explores the parallel love stories of Jamie and Claire’s ancestors, intertwining their own struggles and challenges. It delves into themes such as family, power, and succession, which significantly impact the narrative of the show.

Absolutely, it’s clear that there would have been growing expectations to select the cast for the spin-off series in a way that matches the popularity of the beloved pair, Jamie and Claire.

We had already established the appearance and characters of Jamie and Claire. Therefore, our goal was to find actors who could portray their parents, while also capturing similarities yet maintaining distinct differences.

Although these two shows share some common ground, it’s important to note that they each have distinct qualities. We aren’t aiming to recreate Jamie and Claire’s dynamic; instead, we want the couples in our show to establish their own unique identities.

Although Blood of My Blood is likely to draw comparisons to the initial series, Sam Heughan, a star from Outlander, expresses eagerness about the potential expansion of the show’s family.

At the U.S. debut of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Heughan shared with Variety: “I have absolutely no clue what’s in store for me. All I know is the fundamental concept, so I’m just as excited as a fan. I’m here because I adore this world.

Blood of My Blood presents two new pairs of characters – Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), along with Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy). These couples face numerous obstacles as they strive to stay together, weaving their love stories through the fabric of time.

In the battle-scarred landscapes of World War I and the untamed Scottish Highlands of the 18th century, two destined love narratives struggle against adversity to overcome obstacles set by external forces. These tales unexpectedly intertwine, creating an intricate tapestry.

In this series, Harriet Slater, known for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Jamie Roy from Condor’s Nest, portray Jamie and Ellen MacKenzie, respectively, with Brian Fraser being played by another actor yet to be named. Meanwhile, Hermione Corfield, star of We Hunt Together, and Jeremy Irvine, from Benediction, take on the roles of Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, who are Claire’s parents.

Among the talented actors gracing the screen alongside me in this upcoming film are Rory Alexander from “Then You Run”, Sam Retford best known for his role in “Coronation Street”, Séamus McLean Ross who starred in “Payback”, Conor MacNeill recognized for his work in “The Tourist”, Tony Curran famous for “Mary & George”, and Peter Mullan, a familiar face from “Ozark”. There are many more remarkable performers joining us too!

As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” will grace our screens this coming Saturday, 9th August, exclusively on MGM+ in the UK.
