According to the creator of Outlander, Matthew B. Roberts, the upcoming eighth season will be more intense for the characters. He aims to create a satisfying conclusion for both longtime fans and the story itself. The season will continue to follow the love story of Jamie and Claire and show how the Revolutionary War affects their home, Fraser’s Ridge.
The new season picks up a year after the dramatic ending of season 7, which hinted that Jane and Fanny might actually be the daughters of Jamie and Claire’s presumed-dead daughter, Faith. This revelation would create even more conflict and suspense as the series moves towards its conclusion.
The TV show Outlander is based on Diana Gabaldon’s popular book series about a World War II nurse who time travels to 18th-century Scotland and finds love with a Highlander. Although the show is finishing up, the author hasn’t finished writing the last book in the series. We really wanted to create an ending that honored the characters, the story, and especially the fans. It’s always tough to wrap up a show like this, and we didn’t have the benefit of finishing the original books. We had to focus on bringing our story to a satisfying conclusion, which meant making some changes, but ultimately, we felt good about how it all came together.
Outlander season 8 will premiere on March 6, 2026, on Starz.
